SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joyce E. Swanson of Gurnee, who passed
4away on November 6, 2014; and
5 WHEREAS, Joyce Swanson was born in Mount Clemens, Michigan
6on September 27, 1927 to Ralph and Flo Randolph; she graduated
7from Western Michigan University with a degree in Occupational
8Therapy in 1949; she married W. Howard Swanson on September 23,
91950; and
10 WHEREAS, Joyce Swanson settled in Lake County and worked at
11the Downey Veteran Administration Hospital; and
12 WHEREAS, Joyce Swanson was involved with the Gurnee Grade
13School (now known as River Trail School) Parent-Teachers
14Association and the Girl Scouts; she was an active member of
15Gurnee Community Church for over 60 years; she enjoyed playing
16bridge, pinochle, word games, and watching her favorite TV
17shows; she became fast friends with whomever she was sitting
18next to, whether it was at a concert, play, or casino; she was
19affectionately know as "White Nana" in honor of her white hair;
20and
21 WHEREAS, Joyce Swanson was preceded in death by her

1husband, Howard; and
2 WHEREAS, Joyce Swanson is survived by her children, Nancy
3(Terry) Gordon and Barbara Swanson (York Chan); her
4grandchildren, Jodi (Kevin) Leafblad, Jeff Gordon, Janelle
5Rominski, Jamie (Kevin) Krutsch, and Jorie Rominski; her
6great-grandchildren, Madeline, Kennedy, Evan, Olin, and
7Penelope; her sister-in-law, Charlotte Randolph; and many
8nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Joyce E. Swanson, and extend our sincere condolences to her
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
13further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Joyce Swanson as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
