| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Deacon Henry Curtis Travis, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on November 22, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Henry Travis was born to Curtis and Rose (Myers) | ||||||
6 | Travis in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on January 6, 1929; he was | ||||||
7 | the second oldest of ten children and was raised in the Sheeplo | ||||||
8 | and Indian Springs communities in Mississippi; he served as a | ||||||
9 | corporal in the United States Army from January of 1951 to | ||||||
10 | January of 1957; he was deployed on active duty during the | ||||||
11 | Korean War, where he fought valiantly and was awarded a Purple | ||||||
12 | Heart; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Henry Travis retired from the Caterpillar Tractor | ||||||
14 | Company after 28 years of service; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Henry Travis served on the Executive Board of IAM | ||||||
16 | 851, the Dellwood Foundation, and Will County Board District | ||||||
17 | #8; he also served as Precinct #24 Committeeman; he served 37 | ||||||
18 | years on the Fairmont School Board, with 22 of those years as | ||||||
19 | school board president, and in appreciation of his service, the | ||||||
20 | current gymnasium of Fairmont Elementary School was named in | ||||||
21 | his honor; and

1 | WHEREAS, Henry Travis was preceded in death by his wife of | ||||||
2 | 62 years, Esther Lee Travis; his parents; his four brothers, | ||||||
3 | Paul Travis, Odis Travis, Clark D. Travis, and William E. | ||||||
4 | Travis; and his three sisters, Mary Carter, Loraine Edwards, | ||||||
5 | and Betty Hall; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Henry Travis is survived by his three beloved | ||||||
7 | children, Brad L. Travis, Marvin C. (Henrietta) Travis, and | ||||||
8 | Kawonna L. Travis; his seven grandchildren, Brad C. Travis, | ||||||
9 | Shawn Travis, Brian Travis, Brandon Travis, Stacia (James) | ||||||
10 | Tate, Dorey (Maurice) Fields, and Karrington Dougherty; his 14 | ||||||
11 | great-grandchildren, Jalen, Dejah, Jayda, Jordan, Isaiah, | ||||||
12 | Makayla, Bryan Lee, Alana, Stellina, Bryan Jeremiah, Devin, | ||||||
13 | Aiden Travis, Mia Reid, Micah Fields, and Olivia Tate; his two | ||||||
14 | great-great-grandchildren, Bryson and Elijah; his two | ||||||
15 | brothers, Charles (Della) Travis and Joe L. (Joyce) Travis; his | ||||||
16 | two special nephews, John F. Travis and Keith A. (Jeannie) | ||||||
17 | Hall; his goddaughters, Birdie Wright and Sarah McLaurin; and a | ||||||
18 | host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; | ||||||

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

22 | Deacon Henry Curtis Travis and extend our sincere
condolences | ||||||
23 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
