| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Marsha Wetzel of Greenview, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on November 1, 2020; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Marsha Wetzel survived the homophobia she | ||||||
| 6 | experienced in her life and married her wife, Judy Kahn; | ||||||
| 7 | together, they raised a son, Josh; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Marsha Wetzel, as an LGBTQIA+ advocate, fought for | ||||||
| 9 | aging LGBTQIA+ who were facing discrimination in their homes; | ||||||
| 10 | and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Marsha Wetzel sought assistance from Lambda Legal | ||||||
| 12 | and became the plaintiff in establishing a precedent with the | ||||||
| 13 | U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals that declared that | ||||||
| 14 | discrimination against LGBTQIA+ individuals is prohibited | ||||||
| 15 | under the Fair Housing Act; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Marsha Wetzel, through her activism, helped | ||||||
| 17 | established safeguards for LGBTQIA+ citizens concerning | ||||||
| 18 | housing; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Marsha Wetzel was seen by friends, family members, | ||||||
| 20 | and loved ones as being resilient and having an engaging sense | ||||||

| 1 | of humor; therefore, be it

| 2 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
| 3 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 4 | Marsha Wetzel and extend our sincere condolences to her family, | ||||||
| 5 | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to the family of Marsha Wetzel as an expression of | ||||||
| 8 | our deepest sympathy.
