1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Demetrios Zemenides of Chicago, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on August 6, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Demetrios Zemenides was born in 1942 in Cyprus, | ||||||
6 | which was then a British colony; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, At age 14, Demetrios Zemenides served in the | ||||||
8 | freedom fighting group, EOKA; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Demetrios Zemenides moved to the United States in | ||||||
10 | 1967; he studied architecture and married his wife, Irene; they | ||||||
11 | temporarily moved to Cyprus before returning to the United | ||||||
12 | States after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Demetrios Zemenides got involved in the Greek | ||||||
14 | American community in Chicago; he served as president of the | ||||||
15 | Illinois Cypriot Brotherhood and was actively engaged in the | ||||||
16 | parish council of Holy Taxiarchai and St. Haralambos Church in | ||||||
17 | Niles; and

18 | WHEREAS, The family of Demetrios Zemenides remembers him as | ||||||
19 | a devoted husband, a loving father, and a wonderful role model; | ||||||
20 | and

1 | WHEREAS, Demetrios Zemenides was a proud public servant and | ||||||
2 | worked for decades as an architect for the City of Chicago; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Demetrios Zemenides devoted much of his life to | ||||||
4 | charity and civic participation, habits that he passed along to | ||||||
5 | his children; therefore, be it

6 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
7 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
8 | Demetrios Zemenides and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
9 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
10 | further
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of Demetrios Zemenides as an expression | ||||||
13 | of our deepest sympathy.
