| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Marcia Milne Johnston Jurgens, of Green | ||||||
4 | Valley, Arizona, formerly of Chicago and Arthur, who passed | ||||||
5 | away on March 4, 2018; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens was born in Chicago to George and | ||||||
7 | Betty Marsch Johnston on March 31, 1943; she was a child actor | ||||||
8 | and appeared in commercials, plays, and television shows; she | ||||||
9 | attended Immaculata High School in Chicago and Illinois | ||||||
10 | Wesleyan University in Bloomington; she later attended the | ||||||
11 | University of Chicago and the University of Illinois, where she | ||||||
12 | earned two graduate degrees, one in social work and one in | ||||||
13 | special education administration; she married Doug in Chicago | ||||||
14 | on January 4, 1964; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens worked in child welfare and then at | ||||||
16 | the Coles County Mental Health Center, where she served as the | ||||||
17 | Clinical Services Director and then as Acting Director; she | ||||||
18 | completed 20 years as a school social worker in Mattoon and | ||||||
19 | then continued to teach graduate students at the University of | ||||||
20 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens served on the Library Board in | ||||||
22 | Arthur and volunteered for the Friends of the Library in Green |

1 | Valley; she was a member of the United Methodist Church of | ||||||
2 | Green Valley, the Green Valley Hiking Club, and Newcomers of | ||||||
3 | Green Valley; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens enjoyed creating and publishing | ||||||
5 | crossword puzzles, dealing in antiques, and designing gardens, | ||||||
6 | which were often featured on garden tours; she enjoyed | ||||||
7 | traveling, especially to Santa Fe, New Mexico; throughout her | ||||||
8 | life, she and her family took many backpacking trips out West; | ||||||
9 | she hiked the Grand Canyon five times; she was a voracious | ||||||
10 | reader and belonged to many book clubs; and

11 | WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens was preceded in death by her | ||||||
12 | father, and her brother, Georgie; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens is survived by her mother; her | ||||||
14 | husband, Doug; her children, Christie (Bob Poznanovich) Logan, | ||||||
15 | Kimberly (Ed) Miles, and Elizabeth (Seth) Padovan; her | ||||||
16 | grandchildren, Sam and Jack Logan, Nan and Henry Miles, and | ||||||
17 | Quinn Padovan; her sister, Jennie (Paul) Kula; and her three | ||||||
18 | nieces and two nephews; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
21 | Marcia Milne Johnston Jurgens and extend our sincere | ||||||
22 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |

2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
3 | presented to the family of Marcia Jurgens as an expression of | ||||||
