1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John K. Sciortino, Sr., who passed away | ||||||
4 | on September 19, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Sciortino, Sr. was born on December 28, 1941 | ||||||
6 | in Melrose Park; his parents were Florence and Sam Sciortino; | ||||||
7 | and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, John Sciortino, Sr. worked for the Chicago and | ||||||
9 | North Western Railway for 38 years; he also worked for Leyden | ||||||
10 | High School District 212 for 13 years and for the Northern | ||||||
11 | Asphalt Company for 11 years; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, In 1994, John Sciortino, Sr. received a heart | ||||||
13 | transplant from donor Rick Orton after using the HeartMate | ||||||
14 | machine for 47 days and becoming the device's longest surviving | ||||||
15 | user; he was an active member of the OTS McHenry County Heart | ||||||
16 | Association and was an avid public speaker on heart health; and

17 | WHEREAS, John Sciortino, Sr. was preceded in death by his | ||||||
18 | parents; a sister, Barbara Salins; and his beloved dog, Willie; | ||||||
19 | and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, John Sciortino, Sr. is survived by his wife of 47 |

1 | years, Patricia (nee Ellrich); 2 children, Angela and John K., | ||||||
2 | Jr. (Brandi) Sciortino; a granddaughter, Ana; and many nieces | ||||||
3 | and nephews; therefore, be it

4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
6 | family and friends, mourn the passing of John K. Sciortino, | ||||||
7 | Sr.; and be it further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the family of John Sciortino, Sr. as an expression | ||||||
10 | of our sympathy.
