1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Helen E. McLean of Crystal Lake, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on September 5, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Helen McLean was born in Columbus, Wisconsin on | ||||||
6 | July 27, 1922 to William and Bertha Hundley; she graduated from | ||||||
7 | Columbus High School in 1940; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Helen McLean worked several administrative jobs | ||||||
9 | and eventually obtained a position with the United States Civil | ||||||
10 | Service in 1948; she was assigned to the U.S. Army Air Force | ||||||
11 | base on the Pacific island of Guam; she married Leslie McLean, | ||||||
12 | a sergeant in the Army Air Force; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, During her husband's career, Helen McLean and her | ||||||
14 | family were stationed at bases in Hawaii, Georgia, Virginia, | ||||||
15 | and Illinois; she was a very dedicated mother, volunteering for | ||||||
16 | several activities while her sons were growing up, including | ||||||
17 | Cub Scout pack leader, Sunday school teacher, PTA committees, | ||||||
18 | and grade school chaperone for class parties and field trips; | ||||||
19 | she returned to work for the civil service at Chicago's O'Hare | ||||||
20 | airport military complex when her sons entered junior high | ||||||
21 | school in the early 1960s; she retired from civil service after | ||||||
22 | a long and distinguished career following the death of her |

1 | husband in 1975, eventually returning to Columbus to live; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, During her retirement, Helen McLean traveled | ||||||
3 | often, visiting China and several European countries; in the | ||||||
4 | fall of each year, she would travel to New England to visit | ||||||
5 | friends; her devotion to family continued with her being very | ||||||
6 | active and supportive in the lives of her grandchildren; she | ||||||
7 | was a member of the Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Church; and

8 | WHEREAS, Helen McLean was the beloved wife of the late | ||||||
9 | Leslie; the loving mother of Leslie R. III (Linda) and David | ||||||
10 | (Deborah); the cherished grandmother of Dori (Ross) | ||||||
11 | Logerquist, Andrew (Jess), Jennifer (Steve) Becker, and Evan; | ||||||
12 | the proud great-grandmother of Seth, Sam, Isabelle, and Avery; | ||||||
13 | and the dear sister of Russell (Laura) Hundley, Rachel (Elton) | ||||||
14 | Ott, and Carol Peck; therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
17 | Helen E. McLean, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
18 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
19 | further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Helen McLean as an expression of our | ||||||
22 | deepest sympathy.
