| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Kathleen Steverson "Kathy" Cowan, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on January 19, 2016; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Kathleen Cowan was born in Chicago to Joseph and | ||||||
| 6 | Juanita Drayton
on February 3, 1947; she attended Chicago | ||||||
| 7 | Public Schools and received her nursing degree from Malcom X | ||||||
| 8 | School of Nursing in 1974; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Kathleen Cowan worked in different healthcare | ||||||
| 10 | facilities for 32 years; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Kathleen Cowan was a member of St. Michael | ||||||
| 12 | Missionary Baptist Church; she enjoyed sewing, decorating, | ||||||
| 13 | traveling, and watching old movies; she was known for always | ||||||
| 14 | loving and encouraging her kids and grandkids; she was | ||||||
| 15 | affectionately known by her great-grandchildren as "Na Na"; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Kathleen Cowan was preceded in death by her | ||||||
| 17 | husband of 68 years, Fred Cowan; her father, Joseph; her | ||||||
| 18 | stepdad, Johnny Turner; and her daughter, Cherise; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Kathleen Cowan is survived by her beloved and | ||||||
| 20 | devoted mother, Juanita Gibson; her daughter and best friend, | ||||||

| 1 | Michelle (Hosea) Drayton;
her daughters, Sasheen and Yasmin | ||||||
| 2 | (Richard); her 3 sons, Michael (Danielle), Eugene, and Devin; | ||||||
| 3 | her 13 grandchildren, Iesha,
Anthony, Kylan, Khali, Raven, | ||||||
| 4 | Mykal, Morgan, Mason, Ryan,
Malichi, Mariah, Chase, and Carter; | ||||||
| 5 | her 4 great-grandchildren, Richard, Jeremiah, Heaven, and | ||||||
| 6 | Sashae; her sister, Betty
Henderson; her niece, Sherondra; her | ||||||
| 7 | nephew, Nicholas; her 2 aunts; her 3 uncles; and a host of | ||||||
| 8 | cousins and friends; therefore, be it

| 9 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 10 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 11 | Kathleen Steverson "Kathy" Cowan, and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 12 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 13 | her; and be it further

| 14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 15 | presented to the family of Kathleen Cowan as an expression of | ||||||
| 16 | our deepest sympathy.
