2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Ernest "Ernie" Bartholomew, Jr. of | ||||||
4 | Arthur, who passed away on August 19, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ernest Bartholomew, Jr. was born on August 11, | ||||||
6 | 1932 in Casey; his parents were Ernest Sr. and Flossie Elliott | ||||||
7 | Bartholomew; he married Patricia Beth Ulrey in Casey on | ||||||
8 | September 21, 1954; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Ernest Bartholomew, Jr. graduated from Casey High | ||||||
10 | School in 1951; he subsequently served his country as a member | ||||||
11 | of the United States Air Force in 1952 until 1956, spending 18 | ||||||
12 | months in Korea during the Korean War; he and his wife then | ||||||
13 | moved to Arthur in 1957; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Ernest Bartholomew, Jr. was employed by Petro/USI | ||||||
15 | Chemical Company in Tuscola for 35 years until his retirement | ||||||
16 | as supervisor in 1992; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Ernest Bartholomew, Jr. was involved in Douglas | ||||||
18 | County politics and government; he served as a Bourbon Township | ||||||
19 | Trustee and Tax Assessor for over 25 years; he served on the | ||||||
20 | Douglas County Board, having served from 1992 to 2000, | ||||||
21 | including 2 years as board chairman; he was reappointed to the |

1 | County Board in 2011 and elected to a full 4-year term in 2012; | ||||||
2 | he also served on the Douglas County Sheriff's Department Merit | ||||||
3 | Commission and the Douglas County Crime Stoppers and served as | ||||||
4 | a Republican Precinct Committeeman; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ernest Bartholomew, Jr. retired from the Arthur | ||||||
6 | Volunteer Fire Department after 20 years of service; he was a | ||||||
7 | 50-year member of the Arthur Veterans of Foreign Wars and the | ||||||
8 | American Legion and was a current commander; he was also a | ||||||
9 | 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Danville Scottish Rite, | ||||||
10 | Ansar Shrine, and founding member of the Tri-County Shrine | ||||||
11 | Club, the Arthur Lions Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star; | ||||||
12 | he was a member of the Arthur United Methodist Church for over | ||||||
13 | 50 years, where he served on several committees; he also | ||||||
14 | dedicated many years of service to the Moultrie-Douglas County | ||||||
15 | Fair, serving as Superintendent of the horse pulling contest | ||||||
16 | and working on demolition derby and tractor pull, and served as | ||||||
17 | a fair board director from 1984 to 2000; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Ernest Bartholomew, Jr. was preceded in death by | ||||||
19 | his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Iwana and | ||||||
20 | Burnell Runkel; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Ernest Bartholomew, Jr. is survived by his wife, | ||||||
22 | Patricia Beth Bartholomew; 2 sons, David (Gemma) Bartholomew | ||||||
23 | and Mark (Terrie) Bartholomew; 2 grandsons, Zachary and Colten |

1 | Bartholomew; his step-granddaughter, Eleanor McKee-Volkmer; | ||||||
2 | several nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and | ||||||
3 | great-nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
6 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Ernest "Ernie" | ||||||
7 | Bartholomew, Jr.; and be it further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the family of Ernest Bartholomew, Jr. as an | ||||||
10 | expression of our sympathy.
