SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Donald E. "Gus" Kissel of Springfield,
who passed away on September 13, 2020; and
WHEREAS, Gus Kissel was born in Ottawa to John F. and Anne
(Kelly) Kissel on August 8, 1931; he graduated from St. Bede
Academy in Peru and attended Purdue University; he served in
the U.S. Army and married Margaret A. Roach at St. Patrick
Catholic Church in LaSalle on June 20, 1953; and
WHEREAS, Gus Kissel worked for Illinois Bell for 38 years
as a forecaster; he retired in 1990; and
WHEREAS, Gus Kissel was named to the Chicago Tribune
All-State Football Team and is in the St. Bede Athletic Hall of
Fame for his football skills; he was a member of the Bell
Pioneers and the Elks Lodge; he enjoyed golfing, spending
winters in Florida, football, baseball, and reading westerns;
and
WHEREAS, Gus Kissel was preceded in death by his parents;
his granddaughter, Megan Leigh Kissel; and his brother, John F.
Kissel; and

WHEREAS, Gus Kissel is survived by his wife, Marge; his
sons, Tom (Darla), Jim (Tammy), and Ken (Michelle) Kissel;
seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his brother,
Robert (Bebe) Groter; and several nieces and nephews;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Donald E. "Gus" Kissel and extend our sincere condolences to
his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Gus Kissel as an expression of our
deepest sympathy.
