1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of T. Patrick "Pat" Kane of Godfrey, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on January 24, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Pat Kane was born in Wood River to George and | ||||||
6 | Salome (Miller) Kane; he graduated from Marquette High School | ||||||
7 | and attended Shurtleff College before being drafted into the | ||||||
8 | United States Army and serving in the Korean War; he married | ||||||
9 | Dorothy E. Begnel on August 11, 1951; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Pat Kane returned from Korea in 1953 and joined | ||||||
11 | his father at Kane Plumbing; he assumed ownership of the | ||||||
12 | business after the death of his father in 1956 and oversaw the | ||||||
13 | growth and expansion of the business; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Pat Kane was an active member of the local Wood | ||||||
15 | River business community; he was involved in the Lion's Club, | ||||||
16 | serving as its president and helping with their annual pancake | ||||||
17 | breakfast; he was involved in attracting other businesses to | ||||||
18 | the area including the Eastgate Movie Theater, the Ponderosa | ||||||
19 | restaurant, and one of the first skilled nursing facilities, | ||||||
20 | VIP Manor Nursing Home, as builder and owner; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Pat Kane loved boating, water skiing, teaching |

1 | others to water ski, and spending Sundays on the river or at | ||||||
2 | the Lake of the Ozarks; he loved golf and purchased the Rolling | ||||||
3 | Hills Golf Course in 1976; he spent his retirement years | ||||||
4 | actively involved in the operation of Rolling Hills, taking it | ||||||
5 | from a simple nine-hole course to an 18-hole course with a new | ||||||
6 | clubhouse and eventually adding a nine-hole executive course; | ||||||
7 | he was committed to his Catholic faith; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Pat Kane is survived by his wife, Pat; his | ||||||
9 | children and their spouses, Mary Ellen and Pat Richards, Tom | ||||||
10 | and Janet Kane, John and Joan Kane, Beth and Rob Holtz, and | ||||||
11 | Chris and Nici Kane; his grandchildren, Amy Fahnenstock, | ||||||
12 | Patrick Kane, David Kane, Matt Richards, Mary Mauro, Joe Kane, | ||||||
13 | Jack Kane, Kate Holtz, Danny Holtz, Michael Holtz, Ellie Kane, | ||||||
14 | Annie Kate Kane, and Chloe Kane; 14 great-grandchildren; his | ||||||
15 | brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Joyce Kane; and numerous | ||||||
16 | nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | T. Patrick "Pat" Kane, and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
20 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved his; and be it | ||||||
21 | further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
23 | presented to the family of Pat Kane as an expression of our |
