| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Kenneth L. "Ken" Schroeder of Normal, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on January 10, 2018; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder was born in Altamont to Edwin S. and | ||||||
| 6 | Clara M. Schroeder on September 10, 1921; he married Cleo K. | ||||||
| 7 | Buzzard in Urbana on May 30, 1943; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder proudly served in the United States | ||||||
| 9 | Army with the 1st Cavalry Division as Troop Commander of G. | ||||||
| 10 | Troop, 8th Regiment in the Philippines and Japan during World | ||||||
| 11 | War II; in 1952, he returned to service with the 44th Illinois | ||||||
| 12 | National Guard Division as a Battery Commander, 144th AA | ||||||
| 13 | Artillery Battalion during the Korean War; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder earned a Bachelor's Degree in | ||||||
| 15 | Banking and Finance from the University of Illinois; he worked | ||||||
| 16 | for State Farm Fire and Casualty Company for over 39 years and | ||||||
| 17 | served as Vice President, Treasurer, and Reinsurance Vice | ||||||
| 18 | President; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder was elected as the Normal Town | ||||||
| 20 | Councilman twice; he was also active in Republican politics as | ||||||
| 21 | Precinct Committeeman and Deputy McLean County Chairman; after | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | his retirement, he volunteered as a Trustee on the Board of the | ||||||
| 2 | Bloomington-Normal Water Reclamation District for 32 years, 19 | ||||||
| 3 | of them as Board President; in 2006, the BNWRD honored his | ||||||
| 4 | leadership by naming its 200-acre wetlands restoration the | ||||||
| 5 | Kenneth L. Schroeder Wildlife Sanctuary; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder was an avid golfer, and enthusiastic | ||||||
| 7 | fisherman, an accomplished bridge player, a master of oatmeal | ||||||
| 8 | raisin cookies, the originator of the Longevity Cocktail, and a | ||||||
| 9 | respected adviser to his family and friends; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
| 11 | Cleo; his parents; and his sister, Winona Kott; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder is survived by his children, Margery | ||||||
| 13 | (Gary) Moogk, Gerry E. (Vicky) Schroeder, and Mark C. (Barbara) | ||||||
| 14 | Schroeder; his five grandchildren; and his eight | ||||||
| 15 | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 18 | Kenneth L. "Ken" Schroeder and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
| 19 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
| 20 | it further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
