SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Kenneth L. "Ken" Schroeder of Normal, who
passed away on January 10, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder was born in Altamont to Edwin S. and
Clara M. Schroeder on September 10, 1921; he married Cleo K.
Buzzard in Urbana on May 30, 1943; and
WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder proudly served in the United States
Army with the 1st Cavalry Division as Troop Commander of G.
Troop, 8th Regiment in the Philippines and Japan during World
War II; in 1952, he returned to service with the 44th Illinois
National Guard Division as a Battery Commander, 144th AA
Artillery Battalion during the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder earned a Bachelor's Degree in
Banking and Finance from the University of Illinois; he worked
for State Farm Fire and Casualty Company for over 39 years and
served as Vice President, Treasurer, and Reinsurance Vice
President; and
WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder was elected as the Normal Town
Councilman twice; he was also active in Republican politics as
Precinct Committeeman and Deputy McLean County Chairman; after

his retirement, he volunteered as a Trustee on the Board of the
Bloomington-Normal Water Reclamation District for 32 years, 19
of them as Board President; in 2006, the BNWRD honored his
leadership by naming its 200-acre wetlands restoration the
Kenneth L. Schroeder Wildlife Sanctuary; and
WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder was an avid golfer, and enthusiastic
fisherman, an accomplished bridge player, a master of oatmeal
raisin cookies, the originator of the Longevity Cocktail, and a
respected adviser to his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder was preceded in death by his wife,
Cleo; his parents; and his sister, Winona Kott; and
WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder is survived by his children, Margery
(Gary) Moogk, Gerry E. (Vicky) Schroeder, and Mark C. (Barbara)
Schroeder; his five grandchildren; and his eight
great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Kenneth L. "Ken" Schroeder and extend our sincere condolences
to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

our deepest sympathy.
