SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
to learn of the death of Mason Christopher Santiago of New
Lenox, who passed away on September 15, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Mason Santiago was born to Ski and Shannon
(Riemer) Santiago in Joliet on October 18, 2004; he graduated
from Providence Catholic High School in 2023, where he was an
outstanding and recognized football player; he then attended
Saint Xavier University in Chicago, where he played as a
linebacker on the football team and majored in sports
communication; and
WHEREAS, Mason Santiago took time to return to Providence
Catholic High School after graduating, mentoring players on
the football team whenever he had the opportunity to do so; and
WHEREAS, Mason Santiago was an extremely focused and
intense individual; he was a fierce competitor and wanted to
be the best at his position; whatever he set his mind to doing,
he attacked it with 110% effort, never taking shortcuts and
always performing in high gear; and
WHEREAS, Mason Santiago was the brother of Cohle Santiago
and Sophia Marie Santiago; the grandson of Michael Riemer and

Sylvia and John Greenan and Richard and Susan Santiago; the
great-grandson of Betty J. and the late Donald C. Riemer; and
the nephew, cousin, and friend of many; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Mason Christopher Santiago and extend our sincere condolences
to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
it further
