1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Phyllis Duff of Savoy, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | December 17, 2017 at the age of 88; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff earned a Bachelor of Science in | ||||||
6 | Education from Miami University of Ohio and a Master of | ||||||
7 | Education from the University of Illinois; she married Franklin | ||||||
8 | Duff in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 14, 1954 and they lived in | ||||||
9 | Ohio and New York before settling in Champaign in 1964; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff briefly taught school in Cincinnati; | ||||||
11 | she later taught for 22 years in Champaign Unit 4 Schools, | ||||||
12 | retiring in 1990; 18 of those years were spent at Bottenfield | ||||||
13 | Elementary School; she had a great affection for her students | ||||||
14 | and for many years after retirement she was often recognized | ||||||
15 | and approached by former students or their parents; and

16 | WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff enjoyed spending time with her family | ||||||
17 | and friends; she also loved to read; she and her husband | ||||||
18 | enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad; they | ||||||
19 | attended over 25 elder hostel programs across the U.S.; since | ||||||
20 | 2012, they enjoyed residing at the Windsor of Savoy; and

21 | WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff had a wonderful sense of humor, a |

1 | joyful spirit, and a smile that would light up any room; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff is survived by her loving husband, | ||||||
3 | Frank; her children, Cathy Berrahou, Betsy (Mark) Strong, and | ||||||
4 | Brian Duff; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and | ||||||
5 | her brothers, James W. and William C. Stephenson; therefore, be | ||||||
6 | it

7 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
8 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
9 | Phyllis Duff, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, | ||||||
10 | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of Phyllis Duff as an expression of our | ||||||
13 | deepest sympathy.
