2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Thomas Lorenzo Garrett of Chicago, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on January 21, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Thomas Garrett was born in Chicago on November 13, | ||||||
6 | 1950 to Roosevelt "Nelson" Lorenzo and Susie M. Johnson | ||||||
7 | Garrett; he attended Beidler Elementary School where he was a | ||||||
8 | member of the crossing guard and the drum and bugle corp; he | ||||||
9 | was a member of Central Memorial Baptist in Chicago where he | ||||||
10 | was a junior usher and active in Sunday school; later he joined | ||||||
11 | St. Stephen AME Church and enjoyed bible study, church | ||||||
12 | celebrations, and singing in the Male Chorus; he attended John | ||||||
13 | Marshall High School where he was a member of the track team | ||||||
14 | and student council; he was enrolled at Malcolm X Junior | ||||||
15 | College; and

16 | WHEREAS, Thomas Garrett was employed by the City of | ||||||
17 | Chicago, and worked for a variety of companies including the | ||||||
18 | United States Postal Service as a semi-truck driver; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Thomas Garrett enjoyed traveling and cherished | ||||||
20 | his freedom on the road; he also enjoyed jazz, reading, and | ||||||
21 | telling jokes; and

23 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
