| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Henry J. Vassar, who passed away on | ||||||
| 4 | September 26, 2015; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Henry Vassar was born on August 2, 1941 in Alton; | ||||||
| 6 | his parents were Albert J. and Emma (nee Free) Vassar; he | ||||||
| 7 | married Shirley J. Henson on October 1, 1971 in Alton; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Henry Vassar graduated from Alton High School in | ||||||
| 9 | 1959; after high school, he enlisted with the United States | ||||||
| 10 | Marine Corps, serving from 1959 to 1963 during the Cuban | ||||||
| 11 | Missile Crisis; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Henry Vassar was a contract coordinator foreman at | ||||||
| 13 | the Shell Oil Wood River Refinery, where he worked for 30 years | ||||||
| 14 | until his retirement in 1994; he later became an assistant | ||||||
| 15 | principal and a teacher for New Community Christian School; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Henry Vassar enjoyed golfing and bowling; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Henry Vassar was an active member for over 30 | ||||||
| 18 | years and ministered as a Sunday school teacher, board member, | ||||||
| 19 | elder, and interim pastor for Alpha Chapel, Faith Covenant | ||||||
| 20 | Church, and Hillside Family Church (now Lifehouse Community | ||||||
| |||||||

| 1 | Church); and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Henry Vassar was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 3 | his son, James Vassar; and his brothers, Floyd and David | ||||||
| 4 | Vassar; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Henry Vassar is survived by his wife, Shirley; his | ||||||
| 6 | daughter, Vanessa J. Vassar; his sons, Kenneth, Wayne, Joseph, | ||||||
| 7 | and Adrian Vassar; his stepdaughter, Kelley Schultz; his | ||||||
| 8 | special granddaughter, Madison Schultz; his many grandchildren | ||||||
| 9 | and step-grandchildren; his many great-grandchildren; his many | ||||||
| 10 | nieces and nephews; his sisters and brother-in-law, Emma Jane | ||||||
| 11 | and George Frazier and Patricia Perkins; his brother, Mark | ||||||
| 12 | (Marie) Vassar; and his sister-in-law, Doris Fink; therefore, | ||||||
| 13 | be it

| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
| 16 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Henry J. Vassar; and | ||||||
| 17 | be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the family of Henry Vassar as an expression of our | ||||||
| 20 | sympathy.
