| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of James Allen Cummings of Peoria, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on September 18, 2015; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, James Cummings was born in LaSalle-Peru on April | ||||||
| 6 | 22, 1931 to Florence
Herberger-Lindner; he married
Gail Mary | ||||||
| 7 | Michael on September 6,
1952 at St. Mark's
Catholic Church in | ||||||
| 8 | Peoria; he received
his Bachelor of Science in Marketing and | ||||||
| 9 | Management and his Juris Doctorate from the University of | ||||||
| 10 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, James Cummings worked as an attorney; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, James Cummings served on the Peoria Park District | ||||||
| 13 | board for over 40 years; he was
an active member and past | ||||||
| 14 | President of the Peoria Republican Party and head of the Peoria | ||||||
| 15 | Diocese Council of Catholic Men; he was
also a member of the | ||||||
| 16 | Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council #4333,
past President of | ||||||
| 17 | the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and past President of
the | ||||||
| 18 | Downtown Kiwanis Club; he was head of the U of I Newman
Club, | ||||||
| 19 | head of the U of I Ethic Committee, and founder of the Lincoln
| ||||||
| 20 | Statue Committee and the Lincoln Award Committee; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, James Cummings was an excellent bridge player; he | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | enjoyed golfing, fishing, antiquing, and auctions; he will be
| ||||||
| 2 | remembered for his love of dogs, enjoying long Sunday drives, | ||||||
| 3 | and
being an Abraham Lincoln expert; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, James Cummings was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 5 | parents; his stepfather, Walt Lindner;
his grandchild, Patrick | ||||||
| 6 | Vaughn; and his great-grandchild, Kellen
Berkemeier; and

| 7 | WHEREAS, James Cummings is survived by his wife, Gail; his | ||||||
| 8 | 8 children, Mary (Phillip)
Berkemeier, Kate (Gerald) Wren,

| 9 | Angie (Phillip) Owens, Mike (Marguerite)
Cummings, Teresa | ||||||
| 10 | (Mike) Green,

| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 15 | James Allen Cummings, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 16 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 17 | further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the family of James Cummings as an expression of | ||||||
