SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Melvin E. Stanford of Mackinaw, who
passed away on April 8, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Melvin Stanford was born on September 10, 1943 in
Salem; his parents were Melvin W. and Wilhelmina E. Hormann
Stanford; he married Lillian F. Vance on December 17, 1977 in
Groveland; and
WHEREAS, Melvin Stanford earned his bachelor's degree from
Illinois State University and his master's degree from Bradley
University; and
WHEREAS, After college, Melvin Stanford taught and coached
at Washington Grade School for 3 years and later taught and
coached at Deer Creek Mackinaw Grade School for over 15 years;
he subsequently left teaching and went to work for the Illinois
Department of Transportation as a human resources director from
1985 to 2002; during his time with the Illinois Department of
Transportation, he served as a member of the Tazewell County
Board for 12 years; and
WHEREAS, Melvin Stanford was preceded in death by his
parents; and

WHEREAS, Melvin Stanford is survived by his wife, Lillian;
one daughter, Rachael, and her fiance, Kyle Stratton; one son,
Robert (Jessica) Stanford; one sister, Bert Becker; 4 brothers,
Robert (Max) Stanford, Dale Stanford, Gale Stanford, and Gary
(Carol) Stanford; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
family and friends, mourn the passing of Melvin E. Stanford;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Melvin Stanford as an expression of
our sympathy.
