SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Richard Dale "Dick" Norton of Aledo,
4who passed away on June 11, 2024; and
5 WHEREAS, Dick Norton was born to Floyd and Gladys (Bain)
6Norton in Trenton, Iowa on November 15, 1934; he was a member
7of the U.S. Army Reserves; he married Beverly Engwall in Aledo
8on February 7, 1954; and
9 WHEREAS, Dick Norton was employed with Contel Telephone
10for many years; after retiring from Contel, he became the
11economic development coordinator for the City of Aledo, and he
12also proudly implemented the 911 system for Mercer County; and
13 WHEREAS, Dick Norton was a member of the Aledo Exchange
14Club, the Aledo Masonic Lodge, the Independent Telephone
15Pioneers Association, the Contel Club, and the Aledo United
16Methodist Church, where he enjoyed helping in the church's
17food pantry; and
18 WHEREAS, Dick Norton enjoyed golfing and cheering for the
19Iowa Hawkeyes; and
20 WHEREAS, Dick Norton was preceded in death by his parents;

1his wife; his brothers, Harold Norton, Max Norton, and Rex
2Norton; and his granddaughter-in-law, Amanda; and
3 WHEREAS, Dick Norton is survived by his sons, Steve (Lisa)
4Norton and Scott (Ruth) Norton; his grandchildren, Zachary,
5Trevor, Lacey, Mikhaila, and Breanne; several
6great-grandchildren; and his sister, Dortha Landrum;
7therefore, be it
8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Richard Dale "Dick" Norton and extend our sincere condolences
11to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
12it further
