SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Gregg John Davis of Naperville, who
passed away on August 8, 2010; and
WHEREAS, He was born to Ruth and John Davis in October of
1937, in Scotia, Nebraska; he grew up in Strawberry Point,
Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, where he
met his wife of 50 years, Nancy (nee Humbert); they were
married in July of 1960; and
WHEREAS, He began his 43 year career in the property
casualty insurance business at a small mutual insurance company
in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a claims adjuster; he progressed
through a number of claim management positions with several
companies before becoming employed by the Illinois Department
of Insurance as a claim auditor in 1972, progressing to the
position of Assistant Deputy Director; he moved to Naperville
in 1984 to join Virginia Surety Insurance Company until his
retirement in 2002 as an executive vice-president; and
WHEREAS, He was known by all as a kind, gentle, and
generous man of integrity, always ready with some
encouragement, a word of wisdom or just a listening ear; in his
later years he developed an interest in good wine and a passion

for gourmet cooking to the delight of his family and friends;
and
WHEREAS, After his retirement he became a volunteer at the
Calvary Church Food Pantry/Clothes Closet ministry in downtown
Naperville; and
WHEREAS, Gregg Davis is survived by his wife, Nancy; their
three daughters, Chrystal Gray, Sheryl (Michael) Stille, and
Rachel Bobak; his 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren;
his mother, Ruth Davis; his sisters, Sonya (the late Robert)
Davis and Anita (Robert Fontenelle) McDonald; and a large
gentle dog named Monet; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
his family and friends, the passing of Gregg John Davis; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Gregg John Davis as a symbol of our
sincere sympathy.
