| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Gregg John Davis of Naperville, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on August 8, 2010; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, He was born to Ruth and John Davis in October of | ||||||
| 6 | 1937, in Scotia, Nebraska; he grew up in Strawberry Point, | ||||||
| 7 | Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, where he | ||||||
| 8 | met his wife of 50 years, Nancy (nee Humbert); they were | ||||||
| 9 | married in July of 1960; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, He began his 43 year career in the property | ||||||
| 11 | casualty insurance business at a small mutual insurance company | ||||||
| 12 | in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a claims adjuster; he progressed | ||||||
| 13 | through a number of claim management positions with several | ||||||
| 14 | companies before becoming employed by the Illinois Department | ||||||
| 15 | of Insurance as a claim auditor in 1972, progressing to the | ||||||
| 16 | position of Assistant Deputy Director; he moved to Naperville | ||||||
| 17 | in 1984 to join Virginia Surety Insurance Company until his | ||||||
| 18 | retirement in 2002 as an executive vice-president; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, He was known by all as a kind, gentle, and | ||||||
| 20 | generous man of integrity, always ready with some | ||||||
| 21 | encouragement, a word of wisdom or just a listening ear; in his | ||||||
| 22 | later years he developed an interest in good wine and a passion | ||||||

| 1 | for gourmet cooking to the delight of his family and friends; | ||||||
| 2 | and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, After his retirement he became a volunteer at the | ||||||
| 4 | Calvary Church Food Pantry/Clothes Closet ministry in downtown | ||||||
| 5 | Naperville; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Gregg Davis is survived by his wife, Nancy; their | ||||||
| 7 | three daughters, Chrystal Gray, Sheryl (Michael) Stille, and | ||||||
| 8 | Rachel Bobak; his 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; | ||||||
| 9 | his mother, Ruth Davis; his sisters, Sonya (the late Robert) | ||||||
| 10 | Davis and Anita (Robert Fontenelle) McDonald; and a large | ||||||
| 11 | gentle dog named Monet; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
| 14 | his family and friends, the passing of Gregg John Davis; and be | ||||||
| 15 | it further
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to the family of Gregg John Davis as a symbol of our | ||||||
| 18 | sincere sympathy.
