| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Bolingbrook Deputy Mayor Leroy Brown Sr., | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on October 31, 2017; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Deputy Mayor Brown severed in Vietnam with the | ||||||
| 6 | Green Berets; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Deputy Mayor Brown moved to Bolingbrook in 1976; | ||||||
| 8 | he was married to Pat for 51 years and has two sons, Leroy Jr. | ||||||
| 9 | and Jeffrey, and five grandchildren; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Deputy Mayor Brown was a committed community | ||||||
| 11 | volunteer for more than 40 years; from 1976 to 2017, he served | ||||||
| 12 | as president of the Indian Oaks Condo Association; from 1990 | ||||||
| 13 | through 1993, he served as a fire and police board | ||||||
| 14 | commissioner; from 1993 to 2000, he served on the village board | ||||||
| 15 | of trustees; from 2000 until 2017, he also served as deputy | ||||||
| 16 | mayor; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Deputy Mayor Brown founded the Bolingbrook | ||||||
| 18 | Joyfest and Bridging the Gap, which aired on Bolingbrook | ||||||
| 19 | Community Television from 1996 through 2017; he attended many | ||||||
| 20 | annual events sponsored by VFW Post 5917, American Legion Post | ||||||
| 21 | 1288, the Knights of Columbus, the Black History Awareness | ||||||

| 1 | Club, Heart Haven Outreach, the Community Service Council, and | ||||||
| 2 | the HEART Organization; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Deputy Mayor Brown collected a long list of local | ||||||
| 4 | honors, including the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce's | ||||||
| 5 | Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009; in 2016, he was named grand | ||||||
| 6 | marshal of the Pathways Parade; in 2017, he was named a Paul | ||||||
| 7 | Harris Fellow by the Bolingbrook Rotary Club and was praised by | ||||||
| 8 | Citizens Against Abuse for committing 19 years to defending | ||||||
| 9 | their cause; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 12 | Bolingbrook Deputy Mayor Leroy Brown Sr., and extend our | ||||||
| 13 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
| 14 | and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 16 | presented to the family of Deputy Mayor Brown as an expression | ||||||
| 17 | of our deepest sympathy.
