SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Ordwin A. "Rocky" Schoenrock of
Springfield, who passed away on September 2, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Ordwin Schoenrock was born in Wilton Township,
Minnesota on May 30, 1922 to Otto and Magdalena Schoenrock; he
served in the United States Navy as a sonarman on the Destroyer
Escort USS Inch during World War II; he also served as an
interpreter for German sailors captured after the sinking of
the U490 German submarine in the North Atlantic in June of
1944; he married Evelyn Brewer on April 10, 1954; and
WHEREAS, After the war, Ordwin Schoenrock attended the
American Academy of Art School in Chicago; he then moved to
Springfield to work as display advertising director for the
S.A. Barker Co. and as sign designer for the Sheehan Sign
Company; in 1959, he was employed by the State Journal-Register
as an advertising artist; and
WHEREAS, In 1969, Ordwin Schoenrock began a series of local
and area church paintings that were published on Christmas Day
each year for over 20 years; over 20 church paintings are on
display at the State Journal-Register; and

WHEREAS, Ordwin Schoenrock was preceded in death by his
wife, Evelyn, and his granddaughter, Tayla Skaggs-Cook; and
WHEREAS, Ordwin Schoenrock is survived by his daughters,
Susan (Robert) Braasch, Penny (Daniel) Skaggs, and Terri Ann
(Paul) Zell; his 6 grandchildren, Eleanor and Madeline Braasch
and Daniel, Nick, Kris, and Nathan Skaggs; his 12
great-grandchildren; and his sister, Verla (John) Conway;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Ordwin A. "Rocky" Schoenrock, and extend our sincere
condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Ordwin Schoenrock as an expression
of our deepest sympathy.
