2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Ruth Burton Foney, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | December 22, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ruth Foney was born on July 3, 1924, in Mantua, | ||||||
6 | Alabama; her parents were Mater Burton and Willie S. Burton; | ||||||
7 | and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Ruth Foney was a graduate of Druid City High | ||||||
9 | School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama; she subsequently continued her | ||||||
10 | education at Stillman College; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, In the 1940s, Ruth Foney moved to Chicago, where | ||||||
12 | she became the faithful wife of Eugene Foney, Sr.; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Ruth Foney worked at Swift and Company and later | ||||||
14 | retired from Spiegel, Inc.; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Ruth Foney enjoyed cooking meals for her family, | ||||||
16 | walking, and riding the bus to visit her family and friends; | ||||||
17 | and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Ruth Foney accepted Christ at an early age and | ||||||
19 | joined Mt. Sinai Methodist Church in Mantua, Alabama; she later |

1 | joined Greater Walters AME Methodist Church in Chicago, where | ||||||
2 | she served on the usher board; in the early 1950s, she she also | ||||||
3 | attended Faith United Methodist Church; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Ruth Foney was preceded in death by her husband, | ||||||
5 | Eugene, and her parents; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Ruth Foney is survived by her son, Eugene Foney, | ||||||
7 | Jr.; her daughter, Jennifer Foney; her granddaughter, Ariel | ||||||
8 | Dale-Foney; her sister, Evary Parker; her sisters-in-law, | ||||||
9 | Bessie Foney, Carrie Foney, and Bernice Brown; her | ||||||
10 | brother-in-law, Roosevelt Brown; and her many special nieces, | ||||||
11 | nephews, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
14 | her family and friends, the passing of Ruth Burton Foney; and | ||||||
15 | be it further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of Ruth Foney as an expression of our | ||||||
18 | sympathy.
