| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Martha Louise (Klein) Smith of | ||||||
4 | Bethalto, who passed away on November 13, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Martha Smith was born to Marian (Broderick) and | ||||||
6 | Robert Klein in Bethalto on October 10, 1949; she graduated | ||||||
7 | from Civic Memorial High School in 1967; she married Dan Smith | ||||||
8 | at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto on | ||||||
9 | October 11, 1975; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Martha Smith became a bank teller at Bethalto | ||||||
11 | National Bank in 1967, and she advanced to vice president of | ||||||
12 | the Bethalto branch of the First National Bank of Staunton; | ||||||
13 | she also spent countless hours with her parents and older | ||||||
14 | sister, Mary Ann, running the Klein's Store, a Bethalto | ||||||
15 | landmark; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Martha Smith's pride in Bethalto compelled her to | ||||||
17 | serve the community in multiple ways; she served as a village | ||||||
18 | trustee and city clerk; she also found time to volunteer for | ||||||
19 | the Boys and Girls Club of Bethalto and the Community Hope | ||||||
20 | Center; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Martha Smith was deeply committed to her faith |

| |||||||
1 | and a lifelong member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic | ||||||
2 | Church; she was an active church member, especially on the | ||||||
3 | Finance Committee and as a church trustee; she also served as a | ||||||
4 | member of the Catholic Charities Board; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Martha Smith's family was her pride and priority; | ||||||
6 | she loved taking family trips, vacationing in Destin, Florida | ||||||
7 | for over 25 years and Key West for another 10 years, where she | ||||||
8 | enjoyed soaking in the sun, laughing, and making memories; she | ||||||
9 | was also a longtime fan of the Civic Memorial High School | ||||||
10 | Eagles, and she enjoyed supporting her two sons in Eagles | ||||||
11 | Athletics; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Martha Smith was preceded in death by her | ||||||
13 | parents; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, At the time of her passing, Martha Smith was | ||||||
15 | survived by her husband, Dan Smith; her sons, Nick (Alyssa) | ||||||
16 | Smith and Corey Smith; her sister, Mary Ann (Gene) Magac; and | ||||||
17 | many others; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Martha Louise (Klein) Smith and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
21 | to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be | ||||||
22 | it further
