2 | WHEREAS, Almost one in 10 U.S. counties has a population | ||||||
3 | that consists of more than 50% minorities; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Only 6% of the national public school teaching | ||||||
5 | force is Hispanic; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Only 7% of the national public school teaching | ||||||
7 | force is African-American; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, The communities in this State where children live | ||||||
9 | and learn are growing increasingly diverse; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, In 2012, 49% of this State's 2,000,000 public | ||||||
11 | school students were racially and ethnically diverse, while | ||||||
12 | 16.7% of this State's teachers were similarly diverse; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Providing targeted experiences and support to | ||||||
14 | middle and high school educators is essential in the | ||||||
15 | recruitment and retention of a diverse teaching corps; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, The Diversified Educator Recruitment Program will | ||||||
17 | help support increasing the number of teacher candidates from | ||||||
18 | diverse populations; therefore, be it
