2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Rosiland Dennis of Springfield, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on December 6, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Rosiland Dennis was born in Santa Barbara, | ||||||
6 | California to Emil J. and Virginia M. (Taylor) Milligan on May | ||||||
7 | 13, 1945; she graduated from high school in Crooksville, Ohio | ||||||
8 | in 1963 and earned a bachelor's degree in social work from The | ||||||
9 | Ohio State University; she earned a master's degree in social | ||||||
10 | work from the University of Illinois, where she received the | ||||||
11 | Mark Hale Award for scholastic excellence; she married Herbert | ||||||
12 | "Herb" Dennis in Crooksville on June 17, 1967; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Rosiland Dennis worked for the Sangamon Area | ||||||
14 | Special Education District and the Pleasant Plains School | ||||||
15 | District for 30 years; she was passionate about working with | ||||||
16 | children through counseling and strengthening them to become | ||||||
17 | productive adults; and

18 | WHEREAS, Rosiland Dennis was a founding member of the | ||||||
19 | School Social Workers of America; she served as a board member | ||||||
20 | and former president of the Illinois Association of School | ||||||
21 | Social Workers (IASSW) and was a chairwoman for the IASSW State | ||||||
22 | Conference for numerous years; she volunteered with Habitat for |

1 | Humanity and was a member of the board for the University of | ||||||
2 | Illinois School of Social Work; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Rosiland Dennis was a member of Christ the King | ||||||
4 | Catholic Church, where she was a charter member of the adult | ||||||
5 | choir and a member of the funeral choir; she comforted | ||||||
6 | countless families by helping prepare funeral luncheons and was | ||||||
7 | a member of the Polly Roesch King's Daughters Circle; her | ||||||
8 | favorite hobbies were traveling, reading, gardening, and | ||||||
9 | spending time with her grandchildren; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Rosiland Dennis was preceded in death by her | ||||||
11 | parents; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Rosiland Dennis is survived by her husband of 52 | ||||||
13 | years, Herbert; her children, Lara, Matthew (Amy), and Mark | ||||||
14 | (Rachel) Dennis; her grandchildren, Jackson Blackwell, Lincoln | ||||||
15 | and Stella Rose Willoughby, Andrew, Michael, Patrick, and | ||||||
16 | Catherine Dennis, and Charlotte, Cora, and Cecilia Dennis; her | ||||||
17 | sisters, Erin Arnett and Jodi (Kevin) O'Connell; and several | ||||||
18 | nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
21 | Rosiland Dennis and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
22 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
