| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Frank E. Edwards of Springfield, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away along with his wife on January 28, 2020; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Frank Edwards was born in Springfield to Francis | ||||||
| 6 | and Berniece M. (Hashman) Edwards on September 16, 1950; he | ||||||
| 7 | graduated from Glenwood High School in 1968; he served in the | ||||||
| 8 | Illinois National Guard from 1969 to 1975; he received his | ||||||
| 9 | teaching degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1974; he | ||||||
| 10 | married Cinda J. Janssen on January 15, 1983; he was a lifelong | ||||||
| 11 | Springfield resident; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Frank Edwards began his career at the Springfield | ||||||
| 13 | Fire Department in 1977 and retired in 2002, spending his final | ||||||
| 14 | 19 months serving as chief; he was elected and proudly served | ||||||
| 15 | as the Ward 1 Alderman for the City of Springfield from 2003 to | ||||||
| 16 | 2015; he also served as interim-mayor from December 2010 to | ||||||
| 17 | April 2011; alongside his wife, he owned and operated | ||||||
| 18 | Springfield Auto Body and Towing from 2005 onwards; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Frank Edwards was a longtime member of the | ||||||
| 20 | Sangamon County Republicans and Island Bay Yacht Club; he | ||||||
| 21 | enjoyed flying and was a commercial pilot and a pilot | ||||||
| 22 | instructor; he also enjoyed boating, traveling, and spending | ||||||

| 1 | time with his family and their beloved doodle, Lily, as well as | ||||||
| 2 | their rescue dog, Nicky; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Frank Edwards was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
| 4 | and a brother-in-law, Melvin Rich; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Frank Edwards is survived by his son, Alex | ||||||
| 6 | Edwards; his sister, Judy Rich; his nieces, Nancianne (Mark) | ||||||
| 7 | Knipfer and Sheri (Douglas) Iwanicki; his great-nieces, Julia | ||||||
| 8 | Knipfer, Abby Knipfer, and Madi Iwanicki; his great-nephew, | ||||||
| 9 | Gabe Iwanicki; and his uncle, Kenneth Hashman; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
| 11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 12 | Frank E. Edwards and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 13 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 14 | further
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 16 | presented to the family of Frank Edwards as an expression of | ||||||
| 17 | our deepest sympathy.
