1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Vern L. Aldridge of Maywood, formerly of | ||||||
4 | Summit, who passed away on September 29, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born June 3, 1938, to William Aldridge and | ||||||
6 | Lucille Jones in Cairo; he attended grade school in District | ||||||
7 | 104 and graduated from Argo Community High School in 1953; he | ||||||
8 | excelled in basketball and football and was the first person to | ||||||
9 | score points in the new gymnasium at his high school; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, He married his wife, Heloise, in 1956; he served | ||||||
11 | in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1979, | ||||||
12 | attaining the rank of Sergeant; he then led R.O.T.C. training | ||||||
13 | at Dunbar High School for over twenty years before his | ||||||
14 | retirement; and

15 | WHEREAS, He was baptized under the leadership of the late | ||||||
16 | Reverend Henry Blackwell at Antioch Baptist Church; he was a | ||||||
17 | long time Officer, and served as Chairman of the Trustee | ||||||
18 | Ministry, President of the Laymen Ministry, and as a member of | ||||||
19 | the Male Chorus; and

20 | WHEREAS, He became a Mason in 1959; showing exemplary | ||||||
21 | conduct, he was elevated to the Worshipful Master of Jacob |

1 | Lodge #8, Patron of Electa Chapter #4, the Most Worshipful | ||||||
2 | Grand Master of Hiram Grand Lodge; in the Supreme he was | ||||||
3 | elected the Supreme Secretary General and the Supreme Imperial | ||||||
4 | Potentate; and

5 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred; | ||||||
6 | and his children, Dawn and Vern, Jr.; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Vern Aldridge is survived by his wife of 54 years, | ||||||
8 | Heloise; his sons, Brandon (Vicki) and Douglas Brown; his | ||||||
9 | grandsons, Nathan, Kaylan, and Chanz; his granddaughter, | ||||||
10 | Khayla; his brother, Claude "Dick" Aldridge; his | ||||||
11 | mother-in-law, Marie Williams; his nephew, Carl Polk; his | ||||||
12 | nieces, Stephanie, Mathell, and Paulette; his six | ||||||
13 | great-grandnephews; his two great-grandnieces; his special | ||||||
14 | friends; his devoted neighbors; his Masonic family; and his | ||||||
15 | cousins, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
18 | his family and friends, the passing of Vern Aldridge; and be it | ||||||
19 | further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Vern Aldridge as a symbol of our | ||||||
22 | sincere sympathy.
