| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
| ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Adele Zaveduk of Northbrook, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on January 23, 2020; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Adele Zaveduk was born in Paris, France in August | ||||||
| 6 | of 1937; during World Ward II, her father was arrested and sent | ||||||
| 7 | to Auschwitz; her mother found a non-Jewish family in a town | ||||||
| 8 | outside of Paris to care for her and her sister Josette before | ||||||
| 9 | she was taken to Auschwitz as well; her parents survived | ||||||
| 10 | Auschwitz, and the family was reunited in Paris after the war; | ||||||
| 11 | and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Adele Zaveduk then moved to Argentina with her | ||||||
| 13 | mother after her father's death in 1951; she met and married | ||||||
| 14 | her husband, Benjamin Zaveduk, and they moved to the Chicago | ||||||
| 15 | area in 1963; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Adele Zaveduk was involved in the establishment of | ||||||
| 17 | the Illinois Holocaust Museum and served as a board member and | ||||||
| 18 | member of the Speakers' Bureau for over 25 years; her life | ||||||
| 19 | story was published in several books, and she spoke to | ||||||
| 20 | thousands of school children over the years about what she | ||||||
| 21 | endured; although she did not define herself by her wartime | ||||||
| 22 | experiences, she felt sharing her story could help in the fight | ||||||

| 1 | against hate and intolerance; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Adele Zaveduk was a strong life force packaged in | ||||||
| 3 | a tiny body; she played tennis and loved theater, opera, the | ||||||
| 4 | symphony, and watching foreign-language mysteries on TV; she | ||||||
| 5 | always read the last page of a book first and never let anyone | ||||||
| 6 | feel left out of a conversation; she made a mean brisket, and | ||||||
| 7 | her flan and chocolate mousse were the highlights of many | ||||||
| 8 | meals; she also knitted scraps of yarn into beautiful blankets | ||||||
| 9 | for hospitalized children; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Adele Zaveduk is survived by her husband, Benjamin | ||||||
| 11 | Zaveduk; her sons, Victor (Barb) and Mitchell (Abra) Zaveduk; | ||||||
| 12 | her grandchildren, Kaylee and Maya Zaveduk; her brother, Henri | ||||||
| 13 | (Barbara) Zaveduk; her sisters, Josette Laznowski (Jaime | ||||||
| 14 | Graievsky) and Sylvia Frydman (Daniel Gabe); her numerous | ||||||
| 15 | nieces, and nephews, and their families; and an extended family | ||||||
| 16 | of dear friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
| 18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
| 19 | Adele Zaveduk and extend our sincere
condolences to her family, | ||||||
| 20 | friends, and all who knew and loved
her; and be it further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
| 22 | presented to the family of Adele Zaveduk an expression of
our | ||||||
