| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Dr. Joseph Matthew Saban of Lakewood, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on September 29, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Joe Saban was born in South Elgin to Joseph and | ||||||
6 | Dragica (Stilinovic) Saban on December 31, 1946; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Joe Saban began his career in education, teaching | ||||||
8 | science to junior high and then high school students; after | ||||||
9 | several years of teaching, he transitioned to the position of | ||||||
10 | Assistant Superintendent in Charge of Finance at District 155 | ||||||
11 | in Crystal Lake; he later became Superintendent of Schools for | ||||||
12 | the district and earned his Doctorate of Education; during his | ||||||
13 | tenure, he facilitated the building of Prairie Ridge High | ||||||
14 | School; after retiring from District 155, he became a Professor | ||||||
15 | at Northern Illinois University, where he trained masters and | ||||||
16 | doctoral students in educational leadership; and

17 | WHEREAS, Joe Saban had a favorite saying; he believed in | ||||||
18 | "doing what's right for kids"; he lived his life that way, both | ||||||
19 | for the children of his community and his family; he liked | ||||||
20 | nothing better than spending time with his children and | ||||||
21 | grandchildren; his favorite moments were spending time on the | ||||||
22 | beach, walking along a trail in a national forest, or sitting |

1 | with a grandchild nestled in his lap; he was known for his | ||||||
2 | quick wit and never missed an opportunity to make a moment fun; | ||||||
3 | his home was always filled with laughter; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Joe Saban was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
5 | and his siblings, Steve (Delores) Saban and Katherine Saban; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Joe Saban is survived by his wife Bonnie (Miller) | ||||||
8 | Saban; his children, Matt (Julie) Saban, Tom Saban, Julia | ||||||
9 | Saban, Jason (Tara) Strait, and Matt (Laura) Strait; his | ||||||
10 | grandchildren, Madelyn and Boedi Newsom, Genevieve and Warren | ||||||
11 | Strait, and Barret and Tillie Strait; his brother, John | ||||||
12 | (Nicole) Saban; his sisters-in-law, Colleen (Ron) Mann and | ||||||
13 | Tracy Miller; and twenty-two nieces and nephews; therefore, be | ||||||

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
17 | Dr. Joseph Matthew Saban and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
18 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
19 | further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Joe Saban as an expression of our | ||||||
22 | deepest sympathy.
