SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Brian Thompson McElwain of Downers Grove,
who passed away on September 26, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Brian McElwain was born to John Allen McElwain IV
and Mary Mitchell; he graduated from Hinsdale Central High
School and the University of Colorado, with a degree in
environmental design; and
WHEREAS, Brian McElwain owned Environmental Design
Associates, Inc.; he was active in the Y's Men at the Downers
Grove YMCA, Hinsdale Historical Society, Folk Art Society of
America, Westmont Chamber of Commerce, and the Porsche Club;
and
WHEREAS, Brian McElwain was preceded in death by his
father, John Allen McElwain IV; and
WHEREAS, Brian McElwain is survived by his wife Cathy (nee
Ballard); his step-children, Adelaide and Carolyn; his mother,
Mary Mitchell; his step-father, Harold Mitchell; his siblings,
John Farley McElwain, Bobby McElwain, Marc (Renee) Mitchell,
and Allison (Brendon) Schallert; his nieces and nephews, Jon
and Katie Mitchell, Megan and Scott McElwain, and Maeve and

Siobhan Schallert; and his dogs, James Brown and Barry White;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Brian McElwain, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Brian McElwain as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
