2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of James L. "Jim" Bertelsen of Coal | ||||||
4 | Valley, who passed away on April 19, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jim Bertelsen, the son of Orville and Irma | ||||||
6 | (Hanna) Bertelsen, was born in Monmouth on June 26, 1941; he | ||||||
7 | served in the U.S. Army; he married Barbara (Woods) Smallwood | ||||||
8 | in Rock Island on December 29, 1968; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Jim Bertelsen worked at the Rock Island Arsenal | ||||||
10 | for 24 years before his retirement; he previously worked for | ||||||
11 | the Roth Tank Company in Rock Island; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Jim Bertelsen was a member of Grace Presbyterian | ||||||
13 | Church and the American Legion, and he sang with the Good News | ||||||
14 | Singers Chorale; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Jim Bertelsen was preceded in death by his | ||||||
16 | parents; his wife; his sister, Cornelia Ann Schaefer; and his | ||||||
17 | brother, Richard Bertelsen; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Jim Bertelsen is survived by his son, Eric | ||||||
19 | (Rebecca) Bertelsen; his brother, David Bertelsen; his sister, | ||||||
20 | Julia Zvanes; several nieces and nephews; and other family |
