| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Donald Albert "Doc" Guehler of Somonauk, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on September 5, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born May 14, 1925, on a farm outside of | ||||||
6 | Leland to Albert August and Anna (Passow) Guehler; he married | ||||||
7 | Shirley M. Walker on April 11, 1948, at the Federated Church in | ||||||
8 | Sandwich; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, He was a family farmer (dairy, hogs, grain, and | ||||||
10 | chickens), a seed corn dealer for both Crow's and Funk's | ||||||
11 | hybrids, an insurance representative, and a real estate agent; | ||||||
12 | he attended rural schools and graduated from Somonauk High | ||||||
13 | School in 1942; he was active in sports, Future Farmers of | ||||||
14 | America, and 4-H, and was a lifelong member of St. John's | ||||||
15 | Lutheran Church in Somonauk and almost a lifelong member of St. | ||||||
16 | John's choir; and

17 | WHEREAS, He held many positions with St. John's parish over | ||||||
18 | the years, including stewardship and building fund endeavors, | ||||||
19 | high school Sunday School teacher, lay minister, speaker, and | ||||||
20 | congregation president, as was his father and grandfather; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, He was a member of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau |

1 | for four decades and was vice president for decades as well; he | ||||||
2 | was a member of the Somonauk Lions Club, president of the | ||||||
3 | Somonauk Music Boosters, a PTA and Somonauk School Board member | ||||||
4 | for decades and president for years; he was an honorary member | ||||||
5 | of the Somonauk FFA chapter and was a cultural icon in the Fox | ||||||
6 | Valley as an emcee for hundreds of Farm Bureau, community, and | ||||||
7 | church events for decades; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, He played center in basketball and pitched | ||||||
9 | softball for town and church leagues in the 40s and 50s; he was | ||||||
10 | an enthusiastic water skier, had an affair with golf, and was | ||||||
11 | an avid bowler and gardener his entire adult life; he also | ||||||
12 | entertained church and community events as "Doc and the Country | ||||||
13 | Boys" musical and variety show; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, | ||||||
15 | Shirley, on June 4, 2010; and his sister and brother-in-law, | ||||||
16 | Marge (Dean) Coddington; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Donald Guehler is survived by his sons, Dennis | ||||||
18 | "Denny" Guehler and Roger Guehler; his daughters, Rhonda | ||||||
19 | (Darrell) Vander Bloomen and Sherrill (Gary) Randau; his | ||||||
20 | granddaughter, Katie Randau; his grandsons, Adam Stavros, Dan | ||||||
21 | Vander Bloomen, and Torr Randau; his sister-in-law, Mary | ||||||
22 | Krzystofiak; his brother-in-law, Chuck (Stella) Walker; and a | ||||||
23 | niece and four nephews; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
3 | his family and friends, the passing of Donald Guehler; and be | ||||||
4 | it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Donald Guehler as a symbol of our | ||||||
7 | sincere sympathy.
