2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
| ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Claudia Ann Aho Hoogasian, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on January 7, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Claudia Aho Hoogasian was born in Waukegan to | ||||||
6 | Tagne and Taisto Aho on February 18, 1943; she married the love | ||||||
7 | of her life, Judge Jack Hoogasian, in 1965; she received a | ||||||
8 | bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of | ||||||
9 | Wisconsin-Madison and earned her Juris Doctorate degree from | ||||||
10 | The John Marshall Law School-Chicago; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, The primary focus of Claudia Aho Hoogasian's 25 | ||||||
12 | year legal career was the field of family and children's | ||||||
13 | rights; she started in private practice and then worked as a | ||||||
14 | Chief Assistant State's Attorney in the Lake County State's | ||||||
15 | Attorney's Office; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Claudia Aho Hoogasian was active in many | ||||||
17 | professional organizations, including the National District | ||||||
18 | Attorneys Association, Jefferson Inns of Court, the | ||||||
19 | Association of Women Attorneys, the Illinois Department of | ||||||
20 | Public Aid Child Support Advisory Committee, and several bar | ||||||
21 | associations; and

1 | WHEREAS, Claudia Aho Hoogasian led a long life of | ||||||
2 | philanthropic work, including working for the Church of the | ||||||
3 | Holy Spirit's Native American Partnership with St. Michael's | ||||||
4 | Mission located on the Wind River Indian Reservation-Wyoming, | ||||||
5 | the United Way of Lake County, the Order of Eastern Star, the | ||||||
6 | Lake County YMCA, the Camp Jorn YMCA, the Clearwater Camp for | ||||||
7 | Girls, Stephen Ministries, and PEO Chapter KV of Lake Forest; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Claudia Aho Hoogasian was an avid reader, talented | ||||||
10 | knitter, and adventurous world traveler; she embraced her | ||||||
11 | Finnish roots and her husband's Armenian heritage by passing | ||||||
12 | down family traditions to her children and grandchildren; she | ||||||
13 | loved spending time at her homes in northern Wisconsin, where | ||||||
14 | she was active in the communities and served on many non-profit | ||||||
15 | boards; and

16 | WHEREAS, Claudia Aho Hoogasian is preceded in death by her | ||||||
17 | husband, Judge Jack Hoogasian; and her parents, Tagne and | ||||||
18 | Taisto Aho; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Claudia Aho Hoogasian is survived by her children, | ||||||
20 | Sara (Louis) Pickus, Amy Hoogasian, Mary Hoogasian, and Gary | ||||||
21 | (Jennifer) Hoogasian; her grandchildren, Rachel Pickus, Jack | ||||||
22 | Pickus, Charlie Pickus, and Hunter Hoogasian; her sister, | ||||||
23 | Connie Hughes; and her brother, David (Suzanne) Aho; therefore, |

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
3 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

4 | Claudia Ann Aho Hoogasian and extend our sincere
condolences to | ||||||
5 | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
her; and be it | ||||||

7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
