SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Alex Lopez; and
4 WHEREAS, Alex Lopez was born in November of 1965, in
5Weslaco, Texas; his parents were Jose M. Lopez and Maria Cruz
6Lopez; after he moved back to Chicago Heights with his family,
7he attended Garfield Elementary School and Washington Junior
8High School before graduating from Bloom Township High School
9in 1983; he then earned his finance degree from Western
10Illinois University in 1988; and
11 WHEREAS, Alex Lopez began his career in politics in 1995,
12when he was elected to the Chicago Heights Park District board;
13he served as a commissioner until 2003; from 2003 to 2006, he
14worked for Chicago Heights as the director of Thornwood
15Apartments; in 2006, he was hired to serve as the Chicago
16Heights Park District superintendent; in 2007, he was elected
17to the Chicago Heights City Council to serve as alderman of the
182nd Ward; in April of 2009, he was appointed to serve as Mayor
19of Chicago Heights, where he served until his passing; and
20 WHEREAS, Alex Lopez will be fondly remembered by his loving
21family and friends, his constituents, and his colleagues in
22Chicago Heights as a soft-spoken, honest, and thoughtful family

2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
4his family and friends, the passing of Alex Lopez; and be it
5further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Alex Lopez as an expression of our
8sympathy.
