SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Parker Zumwalt of Pittsfield, who
4passed away on February 17, 2022; and
5 WHEREAS, Parker Zumwalt was born to Parker and Eileen
6Hemphill Zumwalt in Madison County on March 19, 1950; his
7family moved to Pike County when he was four, where they lived
8on a farm near Martinsburg, which the family still owns; he
9graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1968, and he was very
10proud to be a part of the Saukees 64-game winning streak; he
11married Beth Mitchell on March 31, 1972; and
12 WHEREAS, Parker Zumwalt worked for the Pittsfield Township
13from 1978 until 2015, serving as road commissioner for 30 of
14those years; he was also a 30-year member of the Pittsfield
15Fire Department, where he served as chief for many years
16before his retirement; and
17 WHEREAS, Parker Zumwalt co-founded girls softball in
18Pittsfield and Saukee Youth Football, where he served as a
19coach for over 30 years, coaching from his wheelchair for the
20past three years; he also served as president of the
21Pittsfield Little League Association and coached within the
22organization for several years; over the years, he served as

1an umpire at the Pittsfield Lake softball league, a sports
2reporter for the Pike Press, a sports broadcaster for WBBA, an
3EMT for the Pike County Ambulance, a Ward 2 Democrat Precinct
4Committeeman, and an assistant coach for the Saukee football
5and wrestling teams; and
6 WHEREAS, Parker Zumwalt was a member of the First Baptist
7Church and the Pittsfield Crossing; he was named Mr. Saukee by
8both the wrestling and football programs at Pittsfield High
9School; he and his wife were named parade marshals of the 2020
10Fall Festival; he will be remembered for the love he held for
11his community; and
12 WHEREAS, Parker Zumwalt was preceded in death by his
13parents; his son, Max Zumwalt; and his sister-in-law, Sandra
14Richey; and
15 WHEREAS, Parker Zumwalt is survived by his wife; his
16children, Trevor (Kris) Zumwalt, Toyia Zumwalt, and Tammi
17(Jarrod Green) Zumwalt; his grandchildren, Katie (Buster)
18McConnell, Molly Green, and Ellie Zumwalt; his
19great-grandchild, Anna Beth McConnell; and his brother-in-law,
20Lee Richey; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Parker Zumwalt and extend our sincere condolences to his
2family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
3further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Parker Zumwalt as an expression of
