1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Richard E. "Dick" McCloskey, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on March 4, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dick McCloskey was born to Glen and Lorena (Long) | ||||||
6 | McCloskey in Cuba on April 30, 1930; he married Marilyn | ||||||
7 | Schuman in June 2007; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Dick McCloskey served in the U.S. Army Artillery | ||||||
9 | for over 40 years; he served in the Korean Conflict from 1950 | ||||||
10 | to 1952; he retired with the rank of chief warrant officer 4 | ||||||
11 | (CW4) in 1983; he was called back to serve in Desert | ||||||
12 | Shield/Desert Storm from March 1991 to May 1991; and

13 | WHEREAS, Dick McCloskey was industrious from a young age, | ||||||
14 | owning an ice house and delivering Cuba Ice boxes as a | ||||||
15 | teenager; he was a school bus driver at age 20, and he owned | ||||||
16 | and operated a gas station in Lewistown; he later owned a | ||||||
17 | restaurant, Dick's Hangout in Cuba; he worked at Butler | ||||||
18 | Manufacturing in Galesburg and as an industrial engineer at | ||||||
19 | International Harvester for 28 years; he also worked as a | ||||||
20 | manager at LTD Industries in Lewistown; he owned and operated | ||||||
21 | Manufacturing Services in Canton and Rent a Bay in Monterey, | ||||||
22 | selling the latter in 1985; and

1 | WHEREAS, Dick McCloskey received his pilot's license and | ||||||
2 | owned a Cessna airplane for many years; he and his wife | ||||||
3 | traveled all over the U.S. during summer vacation, visiting | ||||||
4 | almost every state; he trained and owned German Shepherds, | ||||||
5 | including his last dog, Buddy; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Dick McCloskey was preceded in death by his son, | ||||||
7 | Dick McCloskey, and his brothers, Bill McCloskey, Bob | ||||||
8 | McCloskey, Gene McCloskey, Ken McCloskey, and Vernon | ||||||
9 | McCloskey; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Dick McCloskey is survived by his brother, Larry | ||||||
11 | (Helen) McCloskey; his sister, Shirley (Delbert) Price; his | ||||||
12 | son, Danny (Mel) McCloskey; his stepsons, Rodney (Sheila) | ||||||
13 | Harris and Jeffery (Lisa) Harris; seven grandchildren; eight | ||||||
14 | great-grandchildren, with another due in March; and several | ||||||
15 | nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
18 | Richard E. "Dick" McCloskey and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
19 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
20 | it further
