| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Betsy Ann M. (nee Meerschaut) Foxwell of | ||||||
| 4 | Park Ridge, who passed away on January 22, 2014; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Betsy Ann Foxwell was a native of Chicago and | ||||||
| 6 | attended Lake Forest College, where she was a member of Alpha | ||||||
| 7 | Xi Delta Sorority; she graduated from the University of | ||||||
| 8 | Wisconsin-Madison; she married Warren R. Foxwell; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Betsy Ann Foxwell taught 8th grade in Chicago | ||||||
| 10 | Public Schools for over 37 years, including nearly 2 decades at | ||||||
| 11 | DeWitt Clinton School on the North Side; she received the Kate | ||||||
| 12 | Maremont Foundation Dedicated Teachers Award; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, After retirement, Betsy Ann Foxwell started her | ||||||
| 14 | own educational not-for-profit program, Chicago Area Problem | ||||||
| 15 | Solving (CAPS), providing critical thinking curriculum for | ||||||
| 16 | elementary and high school classrooms; she also worked with the | ||||||
| 17 | Decatur Classical School's history fair team and with the | ||||||
| 18 | Chicago Metro History Fair; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, In 2006, Betsy Ann Foxwell helped to found the | ||||||
| 20 | Kalo Foundation and served as President; under her leadership, | ||||||
| 21 | the Kalo Foundation has hosted programs and special events to | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | celebrate local art history; in 2011, the Foundation purchased | ||||||
| 2 | the Alfonso Iannelli home and studios, now a Park Ridge | ||||||
| 3 | landmark, and heritage center where the city's art legacy can | ||||||
| 4 | be shared; the project earned a Governor's Home Town Award for | ||||||
| 5 | 2011; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Betsy Ann Foxwell was a member of the Twentieth | ||||||
| 7 | Century Club and its foundation, scholarship chairman for the | ||||||
| 8 | Park Ridge Panhellenic Club, and she worked with fundraisers | ||||||
| 9 | for projects ranging from the Northwestern University | ||||||
| 10 | Settlement, Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care to the Park | ||||||
| 11 | Ridge Youth Campus, where she helped with their annual designer | ||||||
| 12 | showcase home tours; she was also part of the Maine Center | ||||||
| 13 | Auxiliary's Christmas House Tour committee for many years and | ||||||
| 14 | she was secretary for the Brickton Art Center; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Betsy Ann Foxwell belonged to the Park Ridge | ||||||
| 16 | Jaycee Women's Club, serving as President from 1975-1976, | ||||||
| 17 | during which time the club won "Outstanding Chapter" for the | ||||||
| 18 | State of Illinois; from 2009 to 2011, she served as member of | ||||||
| 19 | the Park Ridge City Centennial Committee, and in 2010, she was | ||||||
| 20 | named a Park Ridge Community Star by the Park Ridge Chamber of | ||||||
| 21 | Commerce; and
| ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Betsy Ann Foxwell is survived by her husband, | ||||||
| 23 | Warren; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leo G. and | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Elizabeth Foxwell; and by nieces, nephews, cousins, | ||||||
| 2 | godchildren, and many friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 4 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 5 | Betsy Ann M. Foxwell, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
| 6 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
| 7 | further
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 9 | presented to the family of Betsy Ann Foxwell as an expression | ||||||
| 10 | of our deepest sympathy.
