SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of John D. "Jack" Ahern, who passed away on
August 2, 2015; and
WHEREAS, John Ahern was born on June 10, 1929 in Chicago;
and
WHEREAS, John Ahern served his country as a member of the
United States Army during the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, John Ahern retired after many years of service as
Captain of Chicago Fire Department Engine 28; he also served as
Deputy State Fire Marshal; and
WHEREAS, John Ahern was preceded in death by his parents,
CFD Battalion Chief Daniel and Nora (nee Murphy) Ahern; a son,
Michael (Susan) Ahern; and 5 sisters, Peg Ahern, Mary
McDermott, Norene "Tabby" Pohl, Kate Gourley, and Betty
Coleman; and
WHEREAS, John Ahern is survived by his loving wife, Linda
(nee Allegretti) Ahern; 6 children, Mary (Jim) Klasen, Daniel
(Terry) Ahern, Tom (Julie) Ahern, Ellen Ahern, Peg (Bob)
Frazier, and Patrick Ahern, CFD; 3 step-children, Deana Regan,

William (Stephanie) Diesing, and Toni (John) Taylor; 16
grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
family and friends, mourn the passing of John D. "Jack" Ahern;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of John Ahern as an expression of our
sympathy.
