SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Alice Allen; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Alice Allen was born to Anthony and Queenie Dumas
5in Thomaston, Alabama on March 28, 1937; she committed to her
6faith at an early age and was baptized at Salem Baptist Church
7in Orrville, Alabama; she graduated from Keith High School in
81955; she then moved to Birmingham, Alabama; she married David
9Allen on June 24, 1956; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Alice Allen attended Shiloh Baptist Church on
11Chicago's West Side, where she sang in the choir; she
12proceeded to become a member of West Point Missionary Baptist
13Church, where she served in several ministries for 40 years,
14including teaching Sunday and Vacation Bible School, before
15attending New Progressive Baptist Church; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Alice Allen loved gardening, singing, dressing
17up, playing bingo, and watching daytime television; she also
18loved cooking, and she was especially known for her homemade
19ice cream and chocolate cake; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Alice Allen was a devoted wife and mother who
21dedicated many years to caring for and supporting others; she

1was known for her creativity and enjoyed sharing her interests
2and knowledge with her family and friends; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Alice Allen was preceded in death by her parents;
4her husband of 61 years, David; her sons, David Allen Jr.,
5Bobby Allen Sr., and Clettis Allen; and her siblings, Geneva
6Rice, Ruth Tolbert, Rosie Griffin, Tommy Dumas, AJ Dumas,
7Johnny Dumas, Robert Dumas, and James Dumas; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Alice Allen is survived by her son, Anthony
9(Peggy) Allen; her sisters, Maple Moppins, Queenie Dumas,
10Daisy (Ezekiel) Moore, and Susie Cole; 11 grandchildren; 11
11great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a
12host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Alice Allen and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
17friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Alice Allen as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
