| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Alice Allen; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Alice Allen was born to Anthony and Queenie Dumas | ||||||
| 5 | in Thomaston, Alabama on March 28, 1937; she committed to her | ||||||
| 6 | faith at an early age and was baptized at Salem Baptist Church | ||||||
| 7 | in Orrville, Alabama; she graduated from Keith High School in | ||||||
| 8 | 1955; she then moved to Birmingham, Alabama; she married David | ||||||
| 9 | Allen on June 24, 1956; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Alice Allen attended Shiloh Baptist Church on | ||||||
| 11 | Chicago's West Side, where she sang in the choir; she | ||||||
| 12 | proceeded to become a member of West Point Missionary Baptist | ||||||
| 13 | Church, where she served in several ministries for 40 years, | ||||||
| 14 | including teaching Sunday and Vacation Bible School, before | ||||||
| 15 | attending New Progressive Baptist Church; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Alice Allen loved gardening, singing, dressing | ||||||
| 17 | up, playing bingo, and watching daytime television; she also | ||||||
| 18 | loved cooking, and she was especially known for her homemade | ||||||
| 19 | ice cream and chocolate cake; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Alice Allen was a devoted wife and mother who | ||||||
| 21 | dedicated many years to caring for and supporting others; she | ||||||

| 1 | was known for her creativity and enjoyed sharing her interests | ||||||
| 2 | and knowledge with her family and friends; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Alice Allen was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
| 4 | her husband of 61 years, David; her sons, David Allen Jr., | ||||||
| 5 | Bobby Allen Sr., and Clettis Allen; and her siblings, Geneva | ||||||
| 6 | Rice, Ruth Tolbert, Rosie Griffin, Tommy Dumas, AJ Dumas, | ||||||
| 7 | Johnny Dumas, Robert Dumas, and James Dumas; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Alice Allen is survived by her son, Anthony | ||||||
| 9 | (Peggy) Allen; her sisters, Maple Moppins, Queenie Dumas, | ||||||
| 10 | Daisy (Ezekiel) Moore, and Susie Cole; 11 grandchildren; 11 | ||||||
| 11 | great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a | ||||||
| 12 | host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends; | ||||||
| 13 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 16 | Alice Allen and extend our sincere condolences to her family, | ||||||
| 17 | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further | ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the family of Alice Allen as an expression of our | ||||||
| 20 | deepest sympathy. | ||||||
