| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Chalmus English Sr.; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Chalmus English, the son of Charles English and | ||||||
| 5 | Willie Mae Green English, was born in Birmingham, Alabama on | ||||||
| 6 | March 15, 1947; he graduated from Ullman High School in 1964; | ||||||
| 7 | he received a degree in commerce and social studies from | ||||||
| 8 | LaSalle Extension University; he married Wilma Marie Wilson on | ||||||
| 9 | January 24, 1968; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Chalmus English began working as a postal worker | ||||||
| 11 | in 1964; he later served as an area supervisor at Corn Products | ||||||
| 12 | for 15 years and as a plant manager for Heller Seasoning for | ||||||
| 13 | seven years; he fulfilled his longtime dream by establishing | ||||||
| 14 | See-English Accounting & Tax Services in 1994, becoming a | ||||||
| 15 | respected business owner and trusted advisor to countless | ||||||
| 16 | families and organizations; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Chalmus English was an active member of First | ||||||
| 18 | Baptist Church of Chicago, becoming affiliated in 1969 and | ||||||
| 19 | then a member in 1970 before being baptized in 1977; he served | ||||||
| 20 | in numerous leadership roles within the church, including as a | ||||||
| 21 | Sunday school teacher, a deacon, a youth coordinator, director | ||||||
| 22 | of the Community Youth Program, chairperson of the Board of | ||||||

| 1 | Christian Education, a member of the usher board and the board | ||||||
| 2 | of trustees, and a FBC moderator; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Chalmus English remained committed to serving the | ||||||
| 4 | youth, earning the Sheriff's Youth Enrichment Award in 1987; | ||||||
| 5 | and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Chalmus English, affectionately referred to as | ||||||
| 7 | "Paw-Paw" by his grandchildren, was known for his integrity, | ||||||
| 8 | his humor, and his deep faith; he will be remembered for his | ||||||
| 9 | legacy of wisdom, compassion, and steadfast love and for the | ||||||
| 10 | countless lives he shaped, supported, and uplifted; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Chalmus English was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 12 | parents and his siblings, Ernest English, Houston English, | ||||||
| 13 | Odessa English, and Barbara Lewis; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Chalmus English is survived by his wife; his | ||||||
| 15 | children, Derrick Earl English, Talisa Renee (Jason) English | ||||||
| 16 | Harris, and Chalmus English Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Tiffani | ||||||
| 17 | Tyler-English; four grandchildren; one bonus grandchild; his | ||||||
| 18 | siblings, Sandy English, Tyrone English, Sandra Stevenson, and | ||||||
| 19 | Laura Jean Smith; his sisters-in-law, LeAndres White, Shelby | ||||||
| 20 | McDonald, Ella McDonald, and Vivian McDonald; eight nieces and | ||||||
| 21 | nephews; his cousins; and ten godchildren; therefore, be it | ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 3 | Chalmus English Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 4 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 5 | further | ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to the family of Chalmus English as an expression of | ||||||
| 8 | our deepest sympathy. | ||||||
