2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Matthew D. Melucci of Collinsville, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on May 10, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci was born on January 23, 1944, in | ||||||
6 | Belleville, New Jersey; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci earned his bachelor's degree from | ||||||
8 | Rutgers University in 1966 and his master's degree from St. | ||||||
9 | Louis University in 1974; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci had a long career in public | ||||||
11 | service which began during his service as a lieutenant in the | ||||||
12 | U.S. Army Military Police Corps, where he was assigned to the | ||||||
13 | Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe; he served as Madison | ||||||
14 | County's first director of administration under the late Nelson | ||||||
15 | Hagnauer from 1975 to 1979; he also served as first chief of | ||||||
16 | staff to U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello and was named | ||||||
17 | executive director of the East-West Gateway Council of | ||||||
18 | Governments in 1979; and

19 | WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci was a 5-term clerk of the Third | ||||||
20 | Judicial Circuit Court; he was first elected to the position in | ||||||
21 | 1992 and was subsequently re-elected in 1996, 2000, 2004, and |

1 | 2008; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci served as the chairman of the | ||||||
3 | Madison County Democratic Party; in 2007, he was elected to | ||||||
4 | serve as the Madison County Democratic Party Chairman and was | ||||||
5 | recently re-elected to that post; he was also a member of the | ||||||
6 | Democratic National Committee; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci was a St. Louis Fellow in the | ||||||
8 | Program for Senior Executives of State and Local Government at | ||||||
9 | the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University | ||||||
10 | and was in the 1977 to 1978 class of the Danforth Foundation's | ||||||
11 | St. Louis Leadership Program; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci was a member of S.S. Peter & Paul | ||||||
13 | Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American | ||||||
14 | Legion Post 365; he was also a past president of the | ||||||
15 | Collinsville Lions Club and the Italian American Club of | ||||||
16 | Southwestern Illinois; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci was preceded in death by his | ||||||
18 | parents, Matteo and Antoinette, nee LaBadia, Melucci, and his | ||||||
19 | sister, Maria, nee Melucci, Bainbridge; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Matthew Melucci is survived by his nephews, Tom, | ||||||
21 | Tim, Mark, and James Bainbridge; his nieces, Carla Cogdell and |

| |||||||
1 | Maria Wilckens; his great-niece and great-nephews; his | ||||||
2 | brother-in-law; and his aunts and cousins; therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
4 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
5 | his family and friends, the passing of Matthew D. Melucci; and | ||||||
6 | be it further
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the family of Matthew Melucci as an expression of | ||||||
9 | our sympathy.
