2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Sidney Peter Ross Jr. of Peoria, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on June 5, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born on April 10, 1944, in Peoria, to Ruth | ||||||
6 | Jones and Sidney Ross Sr.; he married Martha Marie Chew on | ||||||
7 | September 20, 1980; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, He was a graduate of Spalding Academy; after high | ||||||
9 | school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served | ||||||
10 | proudly from 1964 to 1968; upon receiving an honorable | ||||||
11 | discharge, he eagerly transferred into a Naval Reserve Command | ||||||
12 | for another 2 years of service; he later attended Illinois | ||||||
13 | Central College; and

14 | WHEREAS, He retired in 2009 after 38 years of service to | ||||||
15 | Caterpillar Inc., where he had been a member of United Auto | ||||||
16 | Workers Local 974; he was a member of St. Martin De Porres | ||||||
17 | Catholic Church, now known as St. Joseph; he was a family man | ||||||
18 | who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and | ||||||
19 | great-grandchildren; he avidly supported his wife in her | ||||||
20 | community efforts and loved watching the Food Network channel | ||||||
21 | and baseball; and

1 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his | ||||||
2 | grandmother who raised him, Lucille Jones; his brothers, Ural | ||||||
3 | Jackson and Edward Jackson; and his sister, Dorothy Walker; and

4 | WHEREAS, Sidney Ross Jr. leaves to cherish his most | ||||||
5 | precious memories: his loving and devoted wife, Martha Ross; | ||||||
6 | his daughters, Wondra Pie, Alzevette (Howard) Williams, and | ||||||
7 | Sidney C. Ross; his grandchildren, Tanieka, Raymond, Tiffani, | ||||||
8 | Brittani, Howard Jr., Quilo, and Bryson; his | ||||||
9 | great-grandchildren, Edmond, Eliyah, Julianna, and Evonne; his | ||||||
10 | niece, Shirley K. Walker; his nephew, Benjamin Walker; and a | ||||||
11 | host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends; | ||||||
12 | therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
15 | his family and friends, the passing of Sidney Ross, Jr.; and be | ||||||
16 | it further

17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Sidney Ross Jr. as a symbol of our | ||||||
19 | sincere sympathy.
