2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Jack Gilbert Swim of Taylor Ridge, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on February 15, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jack Swim was born to Harold and Evelyn (Gager) | ||||||
6 | Swim in Cambridge on March 17, 1927; after earning enough | ||||||
7 | credits, he left Rock Island High School before graduation to | ||||||
8 | enlist in the U.S. Navy in December 1944; he served in the | ||||||
9 | Pacific during World War II, building runways on the islands | ||||||
10 | of Saipan, Tinian, and Guam, where he joined his two brothers; | ||||||
11 | upon being discharged from the Navy in 1946, he returned to | ||||||
12 | Rock Island; he married Marilyn Johnson on June 22, 1947; he | ||||||
13 | became a charter graduate from Moline Community College in | ||||||
14 | 1948; he received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical | ||||||
15 | Engineering from Bradley University; and

16 | WHEREAS, Jack Swim worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for | ||||||
17 | over 31 years, retiring on January 3, 1986; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Jack Swim loved being a pilot and woodworker, | ||||||
19 | reading about World War II, and telling his grandchildren and | ||||||
20 | great-grandchildren fantasy stories; he enjoyed hosting family | ||||||
21 | and friends in Orr, Minnesota, traveling to any beach | ||||||
22 | destination, and fishing in Sandy Bay, Saskatchewan, Canada; |

2 | WHEREAS, Jack Swim was a gifted storyteller and prankster, | ||||||
3 | a respected colleague, a best friend, and a beloved father and | ||||||
4 | father-in-law; he will be remembered for being one-of-a-kind; | ||||||

6 | WHEREAS, Jack Swim was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
7 | his wife; his son, Mike Swim; and his brothers, Harold Swim and | ||||||
8 | Kenny Swim; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Jack Swim is survived by his children, Carol | ||||||
10 | (Donald) India, Patty (Duane) Tschappat, and Steve (Shannon) | ||||||
11 | Swim; his daughter-in-law, Kathy Swim; his grandchildren, | ||||||
12 | Carolyn (Mike) India-Black, Donald (Regina) India Jr., Ben | ||||||
13 | Swim, Brandon (Jean) India, Jeff (Emily) Swim, Maria Swim, | ||||||
14 | Paul Swim, Dr. Lara (Chris Llop) India, and Deanna (Nick) | ||||||
15 | Collins; and his great-grandchildren, Max, Lucas, Anthony, | ||||||
16 | Sasha, Maya, Adrian, Ember, Olivia, Tyler, Corey, Louis, Milo, | ||||||
