| 2 | WHEREAS, The people of Illinois and the United States of | ||||||
| 3 | America deserve a government that exercises responsible | ||||||
| 4 | stewardship over taxpayer dollars and ensures that public | ||||||
| 5 | funds are used only for their lawful and intended purposes; | ||||||
| 6 | and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Fraud, waste, abuse, and corruption in government | ||||||
| 8 | spending undermine public trust, divert resources away from | ||||||
| 9 | vulnerable populations, and place unnecessary burdens on | ||||||
| 10 | hardworking taxpayers; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The Medicaid program exists to provide critical | ||||||
| 12 | healthcare services to eligible low-income individuals, | ||||||
| 13 | seniors, people with disabilities, and vulnerable families, | ||||||
| 14 | and any fraudulent misuse of Medicaid resources directly harms | ||||||
| 15 | those who rely upon these essential services; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Improper payments and fraudulent activity within | ||||||
| 17 | Medicaid have cost taxpayers billions of dollars nationally, | ||||||
| 18 | demonstrating the need for strong oversight, robust | ||||||
| 19 | enforcement mechanisms, and aggressive antifraud initiatives | ||||||
| 20 | at every level of government; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, President Donald Trump and Vice President JD | ||||||

| 1 | Vance have taken decisive action to strengthen oversight, | ||||||
| 2 | restore accountability, and aggressively pursue fraud and | ||||||
| 3 | abuse within federal benefit programs, including renewed | ||||||
| 4 | efforts to identify and eliminate Medicaid fraud; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, These actions represent an important step toward | ||||||
| 6 | restoring integrity in government spending and ensuring that | ||||||
| 7 | taxpayer-funded assistance programs serve their intended | ||||||
| 8 | purpose; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The previous administration under President Joe | ||||||
| 10 | Biden weakened antifraud enforcement by rolling back key | ||||||
| 11 | accountability measures, reducing the effectiveness of | ||||||
| 12 | oversight tools, and diminishing federal efforts designed to | ||||||
| 13 | detect and prevent fraud in government benefit programs; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has a responsibility to | ||||||
| 15 | fully cooperate with federal antifraud initiatives and to | ||||||
| 16 | ensure the strongest possible oversight of Medicaid | ||||||
| 17 | expenditures and all taxpayer-funded programs; therefore, be | ||||||

| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our strong | ||||||
| 21 | support for ongoing federal efforts to eliminate fraud, waste, | ||||||
| 22 | abuse, and corruption in government spending, including | ||||||

| 2 | Medicaid program; and be it further | ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That we commend President Donald Trump and Vice | ||||||
