2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Alfred James Hooks of Peoria, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on January 18, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Alfred Hooks was born to Oscar C. and Eva Hooks in | ||||||
6 | Savannah, Georgia on February 19, 1947; he graduated from St. | ||||||
7 | Pius X High School; he earned his bachelor's degree in | ||||||
8 | Mechanical Engineering from Duke University in 1968; he | ||||||
9 | married Clara Johnson in Peoria on May 7, 1994; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Alfred Hooks worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 40 | ||||||
11 | years, where he retired as marketing manager; he was a | ||||||
12 | diligent worker who exemplified professionalism; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Alfred Hooks was continually active in the | ||||||
14 | community; he was a member of the Peoria Opportunities | ||||||
15 | Foundation Board of Directors, the Police and Fire Commission, | ||||||
16 | the NAACP, Concerned African American Retirees (CAAR), the | ||||||
17 | National Brotherhood of Skiers, Peoria PAC, and the Dunlap | ||||||
18 | High School Mentoring Program; he was a former member of the | ||||||
19 | Peoria YMCA Board of Directors, the Quest Charter Academy | ||||||
20 | Board, and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) | ||||||
21 | Board; he was inducted into the African American Hall of Fame | ||||||
22 | and awarded the Geraldine Mitchell Public Service Award for |

1 | dedicating countless hours of service to the Peoria area; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Alfred Hooks enjoyed playing racquetball, | ||||||
3 | reading, skiing, and flying planes; he obtained his pilot | ||||||
4 | license in 1993, and he especially enjoyed flying Clara over | ||||||
5 | where he was raised in Savannah, Georgia; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Alfred Hooks was a man of excellence, character, | ||||||
7 | and integrity who loved his wife, children, and grandchildren; | ||||||
8 | his legacy will live on through those he mentored, and | ||||||
9 | inspired; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Alfred Hooks was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
11 | and his siblings, Oscar C. Hooks Jr. and Pam Hooks Steverson; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Alfred Hooks is survived by his wife of 28 years, | ||||||
14 | Clara Johnson; his children, Lori (Malcolm) Cawthorne and | ||||||
15 | Malcolm (Andrea) Hooks; his stepchildren, Tiphanie Morris, | ||||||
16 | Nakita Morris, and Levar (Julia) Morris; his sisters, Alma | ||||||
17 | (Merrill) Russ and Janis (James) Hornsby; his grandchildren, | ||||||
18 | Mariah, Nia, Kellian, Mason, Kelis, Jordon, Tyson, Parker, and | ||||||
19 | Madison; and his great-grandchild, Ryan; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Alfred James Hooks and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
2 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
