2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Helen J. Young of Peoria, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on January 3, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Helen Young was born on September 27, 1956 in | ||||||
6 | Peoria to Harold and Betty (nee Dutton) Young; she earned her | ||||||
7 | bachelor's degree in Accounting from Bradley University in | ||||||
8 | Peoria in 1978; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Helen Young began her career at the public | ||||||
10 | accounting firm of Ginoli and Company in Peoria; from 1984 to | ||||||
11 | 2007, she worked at RLI Insurance Company, organizing the first | ||||||
12 | tax department within the company; she was a dedicated Director | ||||||
13 | on the CEFCU Board for 15 years and held positions on all | ||||||
14 | standing committees, including Board Chairman; she continued | ||||||
15 | her volunteer service as an honored member of the Illinois | ||||||
16 | Governor's Credit Union Board of Advisors; and

17 | WHEREAS, Helen Young was a member of the American Institute | ||||||
18 | of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois Certified Public | ||||||
19 | Accountants Society, the Institute of Internal Auditors, and | ||||||
20 | the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners; she received the | ||||||
21 | 1992 Prescott E. Bloom Memorial Distinguished Service Award and | ||||||
22 | was listed in the Outstanding Young Women of America; and

1 | WHEREAS, Helen Young was involved in charitable and | ||||||
2 | not-for-profit activities for many years; she is a former board | ||||||
3 | member of the Peoria Area Community Foundation, the American | ||||||
4 | Red Cross, Goodwill Industries, Family House, Tri-County | ||||||
5 | WomenStrength, the Peoria Area Tri-Centennial Celebration, | ||||||
6 | KARNA, the Bradley University Associate Board of Trustees, and | ||||||
7 | was very active with Friends of Friedrichshafen; she was past | ||||||
8 | President of the Junior League of Peoria, the Bradley | ||||||
9 | University National Alumni Association, and the Central | ||||||
10 | Illinois Bradley Alumni Chapter; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Helen Young was actively involved with Bradley | ||||||
12 | University as part of the alumni association, the Council of | ||||||
13 | Advisors, the Chief's Club, the Centennial Steering Committee, | ||||||
14 | and the Centennial Campaign; she received the 2003 Billy Stone | ||||||
15 | Award for her service to Bradley University athletics and | ||||||
16 | established the Helen J. Young Scholarship to assist student | ||||||
17 | athletes majoring in Business; her community involvement | ||||||
18 | branched out to include fund drives for Easter Seals, St. Jude, | ||||||
19 | WCBU, WTVP, and the Lakeview Museum; she was a member of the | ||||||
20 | First United Methodist Church in Peoria; and

21 | WHEREAS, Helen Young was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
22 | and

1 | WHEREAS, Helen Young is survived by cousins, many friends, | ||||||
2 | and her First United Methodist Church family; therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
4 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
5 | Helen J. Young, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
6 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
7 | further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the family of Helen Young as an expression of our | ||||||
10 | deepest sympathy.
