1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Barbara Houha of Oak Park, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on August 2, 2019 at the age of 87; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Barbara Houha was born to Hjalmer and Florence | ||||||
6 | Olsen on November 20, 1931; she grew up in Cicero, where she | ||||||
7 | attended Morton High School and Morton Junior College before | ||||||
8 | completing a Bachelor of Arts in Education at Northwestern | ||||||
9 | University in Evanston; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Barbara Houha was a resident of Oak Park for 67 | ||||||
11 | years, where she was active in the Irving School PTO and as a | ||||||
12 | room mother; she was a homemaker for many years and then became | ||||||
13 | a Head Start teacher at Grant Works in Cicero; she retired to | ||||||
14 | help care for her grandchildren; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Barbara Houha was known to her family as a loving | ||||||
16 | and doting mother and grandmother; one of her favorite | ||||||
17 | activities was reading the social media updates posted by her | ||||||
18 | family; she was artistic and loved reading and writing poetry | ||||||
19 | or verses on scraps of paper; she always knew the exact note to | ||||||
20 | include in the cards she sent her family; and

21 | WHEREAS, Barbara Houha was easy to be around because she |

1 | found happiness from the little things in life, such as good | ||||||
2 | news from a grandchild or treasured memories from her girlhood | ||||||
3 | summers in Camp Lake, Wisconsin that she went on to create with | ||||||
4 | her own children; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Barbara Houha was preceded in death by her | ||||||
6 | parents, Hjalmer and Florence Olsen; her former husband and | ||||||
7 | dear friend, Leonard J. Houha; her brother, Harold (Patricia) | ||||||
8 | Olsen; and her eldest daughter, Elizabeth; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Barbara Houha is survived by her children, Juliet | ||||||
10 | (Kevin) Stantz, Allison (Patrick Olson) Houha, Leonard | ||||||
11 | (Loreen) Houha, and Andrew (Cheri) Houha; and her | ||||||
12 | grandchildren, Matthew and Clare Olson, Daniel and Steven | ||||||
13 | Stantz, Elaine, Bradley, and Lindsey Houha, and Leonard, | ||||||
14 | Nathan, and David Houha; therefore, be it
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
17 | Barbara Houha and extend our sincere condolences to her family, | ||||||
18 | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Barbara Houha as an expression of | ||||||
21 | our deepest sympathy.
