| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Hon. Michael A. Orenic of Joliet, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on April 16, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Michael Orenic graduated from Joliet Catholic | ||||||
6 | High School in 1942; he graduated from DePaul University Law | ||||||
7 | School in 1950 and was admitted to practice law the same year; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Michael Orenic served his country with pride and | ||||||
10 | distinction as a navigator in the United States Army Air Force | ||||||
11 | during World War II; he retired as a Major in the United States | ||||||
12 | Air Force Reserves; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Michael Orenic had a long and distinguished career | ||||||
14 | in law; in 1957, he was appointed to serve as an Assistant Will | ||||||
15 | County States' Attorney; in 1964, he was elected to serve as a | ||||||
16 | Circuit Court Judge; he served as a Supervising Judge of Will | ||||||
17 | County from 1964 to 1976, and then was elected to serve as | ||||||
18 | Chief Judge of the 12th Judicial Circuit in 1976; he served as | ||||||
19 | Chief Judge from 1976 to 1982, then again from 1984 until 1986; | ||||||
20 | he retired from the bench in 1990; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Michael Orenic was named a Laureate of the |

| |||||||
1 | Illinois State Bar Association in 2006 in recognition of his | ||||||
2 | distinguished career as a jurist and lawyer; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Michael Orenic was a member of the Illinois Judges | ||||||
4 | Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Will | ||||||
5 | County Bar Association, the Knights of Columbus Council #382, | ||||||
6 | and the Joliet Federation of Musicians Local #37; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Michael Orenic was an avid musician and an | ||||||
8 | accomplished violinist; he was a long-time member of the Floyd | ||||||
9 | Wilson String Quartet and performed for many years with the | ||||||
10 | Lewis University Symphony Orchestra and the Joliet Junior | ||||||
11 | College Community Orchestra; he also volunteered to perform for | ||||||
12 | local high school theatre productions for many years; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Michael Orenic was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
14 | Kathleen J. (nee Jehle); his granddaughter, Jayden Huntzinger; | ||||||
15 | his parents, Michael J. and Anna (nee Sceniak); his brother, | ||||||
16 | Emil F. (the late Mary Terese), Col. Edward (Myrna), USAF, and | ||||||
17 | William B. "Buck" (Debra); his brothers-in-law, Philip F. (the | ||||||
18 | late Marcelle) Jehle and Stephen F. (the late Sue) Jehle; and | ||||||
19 | his sister-in-law, Eleanor Jehle; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Michael Orenic is survived by his children, | ||||||
21 | Michael A., Jr., Dr. Christopher J. (Mary Claire), Paul M. (Dr. | ||||||
22 | Teresa), Gregory J. (Katherine), Gretchen O. (Nicholas) Zwack, |

1 | Sarah A. (William Patrick) Terheyden, Gabriel G. (Krystal), | ||||||
2 | Alexia O. Huntzinger, and Justin J. (Rina); his 14 | ||||||
3 | grandchildren; his sisters, Irene (Edward) Batis and Mary | ||||||
4 | Evelyn (Andrew) Matejcak; his sisters-in-law, Sr. Dorothy | ||||||
5 | Jehle, O.P. and Barbara J. (the late James) Durkin; and his | ||||||
6 | numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

7 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
8 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
9 | his family and friends, the passing of Hon. Michael A. Orenic; | ||||||
10 | and be it further

11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of Michael Orenic as an expression of | ||||||
13 | our sympathy.
