| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Charmayne C. Simmons, who passed away | ||||||
| 4 | on January 21, 2024; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Charmayne Simmons was born on December 9, 1934; | ||||||
| 6 | and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Charmayne Simmons embarked on a dedicated nursing | ||||||
| 8 | career that spanned several hospitals, including Rush | ||||||
| 9 | Presbyterian Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, Mercy Hospital, | ||||||
| 10 | Michael Reese Hospital, and La Rabida Children's Hospital, | ||||||
| 11 | from which she ultimately retired; her commitment to helping | ||||||
| 12 | others and facing life's challenges head-on was a testament to | ||||||
| 13 | her unwavering dedication to her profession; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Beyond her nursing career, Charmayne Simmons was | ||||||
| 15 | a versatile individual, demonstrating skills in home | ||||||
| 16 | remodeling and furniture reupholstering; together with her | ||||||
| 17 | daughter, she explored the world of home inspections, | ||||||
| 18 | showcasing her relentless pursuit of knowledge and | ||||||
| 19 | self-improvement; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Throughout her later years in life, Charmayne | ||||||
| 21 | Simmons faced numerous health battles with unshaken | ||||||

| 1 | determination, confronting each setback with remarkable | ||||||
| 2 | strength; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Charmayne Simmons was a woman of deep faith who | ||||||
| 4 | held strong convictions, instilling these values in her | ||||||
| 5 | children; she will be remembered for her courageous spirit, | ||||||
| 6 | her tenacity, and her unyielding resolve; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Charmayne Simmons is survived by her children, | ||||||
| 8 | Roy A. (Rita) Simmons and Joyce C. "Jai" (the late D'Andrea) | ||||||
| 9 | Simmons-Adams; her grandchildren, Steven (Elisa), Anthony | ||||||
| 10 | "A.J." Landis Moore, Jessica, Lil Roy, and Paris; her | ||||||
| 11 | great-grandchildren, Eliana and Steven Jr.; her siblings, | ||||||
| 12 | Theodore, Monica, Eileen, and Adrienne; and a host of nieces, | ||||||
| 13 | nephews, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
